I want to be able to quickly lock and unlock Shutter speed and Aperture with the press of one button.
Manual says to assign it to control. What control? It doesn't say.
I was able to assign it to F1 but that is it.
On D5 I was able to assign it to sub-selector.
Since both cameras feature similar controls why is there a difference?
I tried to call Nikon but after 2 hours (not exaggerating) on hold I gave up.
Is there a way to assign this function to sub-selector on D500?
Thanks.

I assigned it to the movie record button button ... second page of custom control assignments ... Press
i button for quick access to custom control assignments menu.

What we spend on this stuff is equal to the depth of our pockets squared ($²) times what we (j)ustify in our minds as to what we expect to do with our pictures plus (+) the (e)njoyment we experience from using our stuff and sharing the result ... $xxxx=$²(j+e

)
I need to assign it to the same button as on D5 so both cameras operate the same.
According to both D5 & D500 manuals, Shutter spd & aperture lock can be assigned to any of four corresponding buttons on both cameras, including to the Movie Record button.
REF; D5, pg 353 ... D500, pg 106
It is a press and rotate action to toggle the feature on and off.
You're welcome!

Thank you but unfortunately I don't see those pages referring to button assignments.
Page 353 in D5 manual says
"Caring for the Camera and battery: Cautions
and page 106 in D500 says
"Af area mode"

Am I going crazy!!!???
I don't know. are you?

D500 Manual off Nikon website today.
Sushi ... if you don't have enough information to set it now, you need to find another hobby ... or occupation, as it may be. ;-)

No need to get offensive. I had this info to begin with but I would assume that if D5 can do a joystick with dial rotation combo then D500 can do it too.
If you don't want to help then don't. Nothing is lost but there is no reason for tantrum.
Also, page 353 of D500 is not the same as yours. I also looked up in the printed manual and it is not the same as yours.
