Shutter lock and aperture lock.....

I want to be able to quickly lock and unlock Shutter speed and Aperture with the press of one button.

Manual says to assign it to control. What control? It doesn't say.

I was able to assign it to F1 but that is it.

On D5 I was able to assign it to sub-selector.

Since both cameras feature similar controls why is there a difference?

I tried to call Nikon but after 2 hours (not exaggerating) on hold I gave up.

Is there a way to assign this function to sub-selector on D500?

Thanks.

What we spend on this stuff is equal to the depth of our pockets squared ($²) times what we (j)ustify in our minds as to what we expect to do with our pictures plus (+) the (e)njoyment we experience from using our stuff and sharing the result ... $xxxx=$²(j+e :-) )
I need to assign it to the same button as on D5 so both cameras operate the same.
According to both D5 & D500 manuals, Shutter spd & aperture lock can be assigned to any of four corresponding buttons on both cameras, including to the Movie Record button.
REF; D5, pg 353 ... D500, pg 106

It is a press and rotate action to toggle the feature on and off.

You're welcome!

No need to get offensive. I had this info to begin with but I would assume that if D5 can do a joystick with dial rotation combo then D500 can do it too.

If you don't want to help then don't. Nothing is lost but there is no reason for tantrum.

Also, page 353 of D500 is not the same as yours. I also looked up in the printed manual and it is not the same as yours.

There is some misunderstanding here.

As pointed by jshen808, the D500 has a printed "User Manual" that comes in the box *and* a PDF "Menu Guide" that is available online > here <. This is the one with the page 106 referred to and that page contains the instructions to set the D500 joystick the way you want it to work, identical to the D5.

Although jshen808's post included images from the Menu Guide, he did not specifically emphasize or point out that these were from a separate document than the User Manual and that the "Guide"needs to be sought out online. However, my response to jshen808 did attempt to clarify that situation.

Unfortunately, my response was directed to jshen808 rather than Sushi because I had an additional question about the shutter lock function being discussed. Perhaps Sushi only reads entries directed specifically to him within the thread he initiated. Fortunately, your post was so directed JC.

Actually he did say that it comes in the Menu Guide several times.I knew about downloading from long time ago. I even have PDF on my phone for easy access in the field.

The reason I did not respond to you because the other poster already answered your question. So what additional questions do you have?

You got me thinking......

So I did camera reset. And it works now. But for some reason both Fn1 and the joystick with wheels rotation can lock them both, shutter and aperture. I might as well leave it alone.
