Crop and Zoom

Has anyone croped and zoomed a photo out of a G3. if so what were the results? How much can you zoom in?

I had a sales rep tell me that the Minolta Dimage7i can produce better results because it is 5 megapixels?

Is this true or the 4 megapixel G3 should do just fine?

If it is true 5mp camera I can see why he would say that, however just because the camera has a 5mp rating doesnt mean that the pictures will be clear, lenses and focus and other speed of lens, will affect DOF and quality... This is one reason I went for ther G3 the shots are great..
