The best general advice I can give is to participate fully. Don't just thank people; tell them if/how feedback will be applied, or post an updated version of the photo.

Give critiques too, even if you're a beginner. Learning is accelerated when you consider what makes a successful photograph as often as possible .

Yes ... absolutely STUDY other "good" photos, and consciously look for how it fits, (or doesn't fit) the "rules".

Think about what "you" personally like about it, and keep that in mind as you look for photo opportunities.

Feedback is always constructive, but it works best if you describe what you are trying to achieve, rather than just "What do you think?"
