TG-4 old waypoint in current track log

I often use tracking on my TG-4 to record walks, which it does pretty well. However quite often it records the last position from a previous walk as the starting point of the current walk.

I can import the log into a GPX editor and edit out the rogue waypoint, but I'd rather the log itself was correct.

Any clues how I can prevent it recording the incorrect first waypoint?

The camera is running firmware 2.0.

A friend has seen this with his TG-4. Best we can determine is if the GPS can't get a good fix before the first log entry is recorded, it uses the last known valid location. He noticed this occurred more often when GPS logging was enabled in locations where reception would be poor, such as indoors. Another case was when the camera moved significantly or has been off for some time since GPS was last used. This can delay the time needed to acquire its first fix.

I don't know if this problem can be totally eliminated. Some things that can help. Keep the A-GPS data updated. Turn the camera on and allow the GPS to get a fix before enabling logging. My friend eventually gave up using his TG-4 to generate GPX logs. He now uses a app on his phone. That has proven to be more reliable and offers far more features. The log is automatically uploaded to a cloud drive at the end of each session.

Thanks, that explanation makes sense.

I read another post where someone commented on an "old" position being recorded when a photo was taken. The probable explanation was the previous cached location was used as the GPS hadn't acquired the current location.

Next time I use the camera for tracking I'll wait a little while between switching on GPS and activating logging.

I've compared the camera logging with logging from my phone, using Viewranger app, and the two fairly close, good enough for me anyway.

This is true for models prior to the TG-5. If you take a picture before the GPS obtains a fix, it will enter the last cached valid coordinates in the EXIF data. However, the tag "GPS Status" is set to "Measurement Void". This signifies the data may not be accurate. Not all software is smart enough use this standard tag.
