The DSC-HX100V is a very good camera for beginners, the lens is good, and it has plenty of features. I have just bought a Nikon DSLR, however, and found that actually this bridge camera has no purpose to me not even as a second camera.
The best bits for me are:
Overall I'd say that it is an excellent camera for the beginner, particularly as a step up to a DSLR and that it is worth buying if it is less than about £100.00 on Ebay. It is not, however, a good back up camera. Save the money and buy a second hand DSLR would be my advice.
The best bits for me are:
- The zoom
- The built in ND filter
- GPS
- Small Size
- High Megapixels (16.2)
- Manual Mode
- Swivel Screen
- Awful low light performance (ISO 160 is full of noise)
- Poor aperture control
- No RAW support
- The build quality is not good
- No hotshoe like on other bridge cameras
