55-200 Loose zoom ring/extend on its own under gravity?

Hi folks,

I just got my XF 55-200mm yesterday, and I noticed that the lens would extend on its own under gravity. What I mean is that if I hold the camera in my hand, set the focal length to 55mm, and then tilt it forward by about 45 degrees, the lens would extend on its own to about 57-58mm. If I lower my arm and drop the camera to the side, and then raise it up again, the lens would have extended further to 64-66mm.

I've never owned a telephoto lens before, and I'm not sure if this is expected due to the weight of the lens. It also seems that the zoom ring on my 55-200 is not as stiff as the one on my 18-55, which I've gotten quite used to.

Could you guys please shed some light on this issue? I'd really appreciate it!

I've received an XF 18-55 and XF 55-200mm lens today.

1. The XF 18-55mm kit lens is very easy to move, but it does not creep /extend when I point down. But it moves so easily, do you think it can wear out over time? I had another XF 18-55 for a few days which was way harder to move. Is the variation between lenses normal or should it be hard to move?

2. The XF 55-200mm is relatively stiff to move but at the end of the zoom range (135-200mm) it gets a bit easier to move. Is that normal?

Now that you mentioned it, I have an 18-55 that's three years old and it doesn't self-extend when pointed down. As a matter of face, neither does my 16-55 or my 50-140.
