Hi everyone,

I had just the opportunity to test run the Affinity Photo Program for a couple of days. For those who are looking for a Program outside of SPP to convert X3F Files, this program does it. Here is the link with the cameras supported:

The list is about a year old, so this might be known to most (it was new to me, however), but for those who don't know yet: I could not find a Sigma camera in the list that is not supported for RAW. So this might be good news for for those of you that are not happy with subscription programs from Adobe any more AND look for a solution suitable for X3F files.

Thought I at least mention it.

Best regards!

Thanks for the heads-up!

Do high-ISO images from your DP2 Merrill still come out dark in Affinity after raw conversion, leaving you brighten them in post?

That's what the Widows Beta version did . . . .

Are you saying that you actually tried processing some raw files with it, and it worked and didn't just extract the jpegs and show you those?

It converts the raw, doesn't "just extract the jpegs". People say that about FastStone Viewer, not true there either.

Discussed previously, link, and has big issues.

Hi Mattanja,

Affinity Photo does do a complete process of X3F files.

I have not done a lot of PP lately but thought I would give it a bash again to see what was what.

As Ted knows I did post a couple of examples on the previous thread and as I really had little idea of how to use Affinity, my results were so, so. :-|

I still do not have any expertise with Affinity and would say that I find the greens & reds a bit lacking and prefer my other version from SPP. This is not to say that better results could not be obtained if you were competent with Affinity. In the right hands I am sure it could work wonders.

Affinity version.
Affinity version.

SPP version.

At the moment I always use SPP as a start to any post processing and I don't see me changing.

PP outputs are very subjective. :-)

Cheers.

I can't comment on older Sigmas like your SD15, but, Affinity processing is unacceptable with the current Sigmas. Looks okay at low res, but close examination will show big issues. Example.

Hi TN,

The samples were done with AF 1.6.6 and I would say that they follow your 'Example' Beta results. As stated I have no expertise with Affinity and it might be the case that my ability effects the results.

By the way, I'm even older than my 'old Sigma camera'. 🙄

Cheers.

Sorry, I only did a test with 2 shots, the colours were not the best, can't tell about dark parts. Now the test period is over (10 days).

I just wanted to stress the fact that at least there IS a program that is available, even if it is not the best.

Best regards,

Mattanja
