Panasonic G9 Raw File Comparison

If this is RAW without any noise reduction, it's a great development. I understand it's the same sensor, but as you say something can be accomplished with optimalization.

He says he used ACR so there will be the normal noise reduction / sharpening that all converters do. Main point is that it is a direct comparison.

Impressive and obvious improvement. Maybe this shows that processing power and improved software now play a major role in the overall IQ.

I was writing Assembler code over 40 years ago but I wouldn't have a clue where to start on analysing and improving an image. I agree Brad and am sure, so far, we've only seen the tip of the iceberg. I suspect though that there's a delay between raw processing capability becoming available and an individual having that spark of an idea that turns conventional processing on its head and makes a big leap forward. But I do hope I'm around to see and use it ;-)

I certainly do know of the Commodore PET but I was on large commercial mainframes - a whole 256KB of store and 30MB discs the size of a washing machine. Did play with: TRS80, CPM and MS-DOS on first model PCs. Still have the BBC Micro in the loft

When I'm too rickety to go out with a camera I'll get the latest incarnation of the Pi methinks and revisit the old coding pad ;-) Not touched a coding pad since 1983.

First comparison I have seen between raw files for GH5 and G9.

I guess the differences are just down to sensor production optimisation over time:

I suspect any differences will be down to software and realistically will be at best fractions of a stop . Both fine cameras while I love video and the GH5 excels at this , the G9 is no slouch and has a couple of extra features I would like :-) . One of them will be my next m43 body but RAW image quality will not be a major factor in my decision . We are lucky in m43 with quite a diverse range of options to choose from , as a keen video shooter the excellent E-M1II image stabilisation also appeals

I was doing the same on a Commodore PET, with external HD (well dual floppies). Not many here who will know what a PET was.:-)

Well... I for one remember it quite well although I never had one. I can still picture the front page of Popular Science magazine with a PET on a kitchen counter where the idea was that from now on, all recipes would reside on the computer and could be found in a jiffy (although obviously, no such application existed at the time). As for the name, I must admit I remembered the Personal part but had to look up the complete acronym: Personal Electronic Transactor. How sexy is that! This goes to show that not only technology has greatly evolved but the marketing of it as well...
