It is my first Art lens.

Wonderful lens, fantastic for sharpness and colors, the details in the focus area are impressive and enhances the three-dimensionality and the pop-up effect and it have also a very good bokeh.

A superlative optic, a jewel for color rendering and depth of contrasts... :-)

Will buy the USB Dock for firmware upgrade and to access to the other features of the lens.

I'm surprised how shallow the depth of field looks in the first couple of photos, when they were shot at f10. Nice!

P.S. Please post full-size photos, rather than these down-sized images, so we can see the detail in all its glory.

;)

First images I can recall with the 35mm ART and the SD1. Looks like a great combination, please keep posting.

Thank you for comment, I think is one of the best few lens to pair with SD1M for achieve exceptional result.

Hand held with mirror lock-up, SPP to jpg. The lens is great in the less illuminated areas of the image.

I have calibrated the lens on the SD1M as best as I can with -12 micro AF value.

A beautiful piece of optics with images that show it.

Have you noticed any AF inconsistencies? I am interested in this lens and some have had AF problems when focusing beyond 2 meters. Sometimes it will front focus and then other times it will back focus, again from 2 meters to infinity. I used one last weekend and noticed that when close up the lens was a rock star. For landscapes at infinity it was OK with a somewhat soft focus.

If the lens don't work perfectly for you it need to be calibrated. There are three way to calibrate the lens:

1 - if attached to SD1 Merrill body, in the manu, there is micro AF adjustment, in this way the lens is overall calibrated.

2 - Send your body and the lens to the Sigma Service

3 - with the Sigma Dock. The 35mm Art F1.4 have four value (range from -20 to +20) each value is for a specific distance micro AF adjustment and in addition with Dock you can install latest firmware to the lens.

I was looking at your first three shots and was wondering why they looked a bit soft, and then noticed that you shot them at f10, which is way into the diffraction limitation for that lens:

I'd like to see a few shots taken at its best resolution of f4-5.6 if you feel like posting some.

Thanks

Also, is it clear edge to edge when shooting at infinity at F4-5.6? From what you have posted my guess is your answer will be "yes".

I ask this because my new 24mm F1.4 Art ended up being soft on the right at infinity, and I sent it back for repair or replacement. At closer distances it was harder to tell. See below if you want more information:

Hi Mike,

thank you for comment, this shot is one of the series at F4.0, will post more soon.

Let's see how this lens behave, shoot handheld with mirror lock-up, AF on top of the cactus in the centre of the frame, SPP > jpg.

Every day a new image.
Hi Tom,

I saw your photo took with the 24mm Art and I also noticed that is soft on the right.

Sorry to ear that your lens is not ok, I hope that it come perfect to you soon.

The photo of the building is 21:9 aspect ratio?

Thank you. It is not only sharper but clearer as well. I also noticed this on my 70mm macro, that when you stop a high quality lens down too much you lose not only sharpness but contrast and clarity.

When shooting vertical the rightmost of the 11 AF points is accurate on the SD1M as the central point? Or it is best to use only and always the central point?

No, it was just an arbitrary crop to remove top and bottom from the image to make a smaller file size when saved. It does show the softness well though.

To me, this one looks a little soft on the left. Right side of this image seems much clearer to me. My 24mm F1.4 was softer though.

I see... Not 100% perfect from factory as one would expect from a 1st world class lens. Your lens has returned from Sigma USA?

If we compare this 35mm with the lens of DP3 Merrill and DP2 Merrill that deliver exceptional sharpness and clarity IQ at nearly every F stop...

These photos are taken from the first I took when I bought one of my two DP3 Merrill, please view at 100% size. (Taormina, Teatro Greco).
