So I have been shooting for a few years now with a D3300. I'm looking to upgrade The more I shoot the more i'm looking for a better screen that can move. I want to start shooting Video as well. So I have been looking at the 80D due to the video abilities. I have read alot of great things about. I will be mainly shooting stills. I don't do that much action shooting. More landscape while hiking. And other then that just general shooting. But i'm looking to get real reviews from people who use the camera every day.

Thanks

It would help to know what cams if you are comparing 80d to them.

Most cams are very capable these days and the type shooting you mentioned can be accomplished by many/most.

The 80d has decent video features but not the best of video, it is decent but far from what is offered by the GH5 or some Sony's - even their 1080p but both offer 4khd.

That said, 80d is a lovely handling camera, focus is good, although it is not as good as the -3ev would imply.

The other day I needed to change AF from 1 pt to a central group to assure of focus, using an f2.8 lens, and it was a setting sun but not so dark and it surprised me it would not focus, at least where I wanted focus, it failed a few attempts so that is when i changed the AF - i had heard that the 6D which is also -3ev does a reliably better job than the 80d-so canon may be fibbing on that one.

Nikon has some very fine cams and if you have nikon lens then you may want to look at the '7xxx' or '5xxx' series, great sensors and good AF and metering.

GL !

Thank you for the reply and some feedback. I have been looking at the D7500 camera as well. I know it shoots in 4K. The 1080 and 4K thing is not a deal breaker for me. I would like a touch screen and one that can be moved. The more I shoot the more I would like to be able to have a screen in live view that I can see with the camera on the ground so I don't have to lay on the ground to see if i'm getting the shot I want. I have also looked at the D5600 and the 70D but I have been leaning towards the 80D or the D7500. I was just wanting some feedback from people who actually use the camera and not just what I can read online from review websites

Thanks

I want a screen that moves too. I am going to get a SL2 when they show up on the refurbished site. Same sensor as the 80D.

I played with the cameras at Best Buy and left wanting a SL2.

I'm just back from the Profusion camera show, where I took some test pictures with my 80D.

It worked well under trying conditions.

For my normal use, the 80D works very well under almost all circumstances.

I can't imagine any good reason not to buy one.

Today, wandering around the show, there were no other cameras I was interested in picking up and playing with.

I wanted to go to this show but didn't have time. From what I saw on the show's website, the show featured mostly video-related products. Were there any other DSLRs showcased?

I'm also interested in the 80D, mostly as a video tool. I have a 70D but other than the 1080@60p mode, I don't know if there are any significant upgrades. Maybe the headphone jack...

What I really would like on my next camera is a multi-directional control (aka joystick). Also, the ability to set EC in manual is a long-awaited feature for me.

My partner were in the car Tuesday, paid the hydro bill at town hall, looked at each other saind said, "have we got time for this?"

And we came back to the office.

Wednesday morning our video producer (works on contract) Robert sent us a note saying he was going to the show.

So I took the GO Train to meet him. Partner stayed away.

The show seemed smaller. It may have been because there were no school trips because of the strike.

Canon, Nikon, Sony, Sigma had normal, good, booths. Epson and Canon printer booths. But it did not take me long to be finished.

HIGHLIGHT Rotalight had a booth, and Jason Lanier (Youtube guy) gave lectures. Caught a very little bit of a Sony-related talk, and missed the Rotalight talk.

That said, the head of Rotalight (the guy who owns the boat on the THames, if you watch Jason's videos) was there. He, Robert and I played with the lights for a few minutes, and then he left us alone as Robert and I experiments.

Robert may buy one of the big ones for video and stills. We would want Robert to use it on projects for us.

I did not see a Godox booth.

But not same video quality. Not even the T7i/s got the 80D video options and quality

I want it for taking still pictures of cars and motorcycles at the Plant City Florida shows.

Mounted on a tripod shooting at ISO 100. :)

I did this with a 10D. I was laying on the ground.

check ahead many shows do not allow tripods, largish and can trip ppl, liability issues OR go at a press special showing.

a monopod will likely be allowed and will certainly help stabilizing.

OR buy a hand carry stabilizer like the dji osmo or some such, should work fine with a tilting rear monitor on cam, stills or video.

Right ? Laying on the ground is bad enough. :)

I do have one of these.
