A beta version, say 0.9 could have a beter implemented feature and an alterd one later in the 1.0 version.Indeed.. version 1.0 of Lightroom was somewhat limited and clunky in some ways. It looked rather amateurish compared with the far more mature and fine-tuned Bridge of the same era.How can version 1.0 be step backwards ?
But the underlying paradigm was sound - and those people actively seeking to work that way, could see the potential in it. And they soon learnt that apparent simplicity does not also mean a lack of substance.
I think this new development should be viewed in the same spirit.
Within the standard LR photography bundle you get to try out this new environment at no added cost, and to feed back to Adobe as to what works and what doesn't, so far as the functionality which has so far been included.
There's no need to rely on it for commercial work etc yet; not until you are satisified it is ready and reliable for YOU. As the included functionality widens, perhaps as new things arrive which were never even feasible in the desktop product; those who engage with the product will have a chance to influence and then to benefit from those improvements.
OTOH those who refuse to accept some novel product just because it hasn't arrived as a fully formed, mature, established product right from day 1...
that is, simply, their loss.
So, theoretically it's possible if they changed some things.
Not sure there was a beta available before the 1.0 version came out.
