Never really looked over the wife's little A37 until the other day and found something that make me kinda curious. Now this was bought as a store refurb from a larger electronics retailer here downunder, no official Sony warranty given but instead a 1 year instore one.

Can't for the life of me understand how an Australian store refurb would come with these markings on the underside.

Disregard the lens label, it was bought second hand through Ebay locally.

Is this why the a37 has low High ISO noise? ;-)

On topic: My a55 does not have that license note. Your a37 appears to come 'From Russia with Love'. Just guessing, seeing what looks like cyrillic letters.

Cheers,
Ralf

If that's what it takes to find a Sony APS-C with low noise I wish my A77 would of come "out of Russia with love"....this little thing generally smokes my A77 for overall IQ for some reason.

Something wrong with your A77 then. I used to own an A77, A65 and A55 (same 16mp sensor as A37). IQ wise there wasn't much to choose between them. Reduce the A77 files to 16mp, compare side by side and there should be little if any difference. Looking at 24mp images at 100% vs 16mp at 100% gives the illusion of more noise with the 24mp image when in reality the noise level is the same.

They are all like that.

That isn't a sticker or anything added, it is stamped on the bottom plate .

(you can feel the letters with your finger)

See page 82 of your manual :

Audio: Dolby Digital 2ch, equipped with Dolby Digital
Stereo Creator

why the notice is part of the bottom plate, that I don't know....

Not looking at the "Dolby" marking but rather the Russian writing on the model sticker. A "refurb" store demo bought from an Australian retailer with a model sticker in Russian sorta tickled my interest.
Tossing the same question out at Dyxum has so far found a UK store bought example also in Russian and a US bought one with Japanese on the sticker.

Best guess so far would be batches meant for one market getting re-directed to other markets due to supply and demand.

I see now...

mine has the same , also bought in Australia. I never noticed.

Originally from a Sony promo with the 2 kit lenses , a gadget bag and a lens bag.

I don't think I have the packaging anymore to see if there is any clue there.

Most likely it was re-directed.

Was it perhaps a Harvey Norman buy? Mine, or rather the wife's, was bought out of one of their outlet stores back in 2014.

probably. I bought it "second hand" but fully boxed up , it was an unwanted present.
