our last night in Montana for 2017 was about the clearest we had for the "summer", which was mostly a lot of smoke followed by snow. An after-dinner snap with the Loxia 21MM. Slightly, but not entirely, straightened! This is facing generally west - earlier in the year one has to wait until about 3AM (or get up really early) to get good stars in this direction. The "tail" of the big dipper is just visible towards the right of the frame. This is a 30-sec exposure - I'd have to go with a little shorter exposure to get more pinpoint stars.
As the grass in the field had become really hideous-looking after being partially mashed down by a over a foot of snow earlier in the week, it was great to have the night to disguise it!
