I don't have the FZ2500, but a friend of mine does and he's tried it without much success and I must say, that after reading the instructions, I can see why. Plus based on those instructions, it seems to have limited usefulness.

Same here. No joy. Dolly Zoom is greyed out for me, no matter which of the approved NTSC record settings I choose in camera (p.42-43 in the manual).

Very frustrating. Has anyone here actually at least seen the Dolly Zoom menu item selectable? If yes, what are your settings? (Oddly, when selecting any of the approved formats, frame rates, bitrates, etc, my camera seems to be stuck in MF., despite the fact that my focus mode knob is on either AF-C or AF-S...

I have the same problem with the dolly zoom option being greyed out. Stops me even getting to first base.

There was a UTube video link somewhere recently, this guy claimed and proved there is an alternative easy way to perform the Dolly Zoom, and darn, i forgot to save that link, try a search for how to perform Dolly Zoom fz2500/2000 on UTube and see what comes up!!

I do not yet have the FZ-2000/2500 but something I would LIKE to do, (but don't think it will) ....

Is ...

Put camera on tripod and "zoom" during a LONG exposure.

It can be done on a "manual" zoom lens, (as long as focus does not change w/ zooming), but does not work on FZ-1000.

Note that it can be used for cool photos at carnival-LIGHTS and other such situations.

Haven't heard of any power-zoom fixed-lens camera that will do this...

There is a video on U Tube, there a guy explains how to do the dolly zoom `easily` in a round about way with the fz2500/2000 and i saved and have now lost that link, as i said in my earlier comment, `Google U Tube i think there could be a few videos on the methods for dolly zooming for this cam, i have yet to look there myself.

I've seen the Panasonic video of a plant, getting a dolly zoom, on youtube, others of people. So it is possible, and when it works, looks cool. (Or the Panasonic video is a fluke/manually done?)

However, the steps appear vague...

1. So, first have to pick a video recording setting which allows the dolly zoom to be picked. Until that's picked, it's greyed out. Formats.

Example, in full auto, greyed.

2. Also, you have to move the camera while using it, so - face lock, some have suggested is required...

Face lock is not required, because of one youtube, Recon, video showing the camera locking on another camera, to make the effect.

I'm going to give it a go, and update what I find works well - one painful step at a time. :)

What worked for me is to set up everything as in the manual BUT Turn OFF variable frame rate in the Menu... THEN miraculously you can set the Dolly and Slow settings.... seems completely un-intuitive but that's what worked for me... I have not tried to use these in a video but will soon!

Your method works! So easy now, just can't think of a useful application for "Dolly Zoom" in my work flow....
