Has anyone tried using a close up filter on their lens when making a video? Seems a cheap way for a decent for a video but I don't see references to it. I must be asking the wrong question? I use a canon 70D and will probably use it on a 50mm 1.8 lens. Any suggestions?

Close up filters are essentially like adding a magnifying glass to the front of your lens. They're generally used as a cheap way to do macro photography. What exactly are you trying to do?

I have a teenage son who is a very keen film maker and will be doing close ups of eyes. fingers etc. Shallow depth of field is useful but needs to keep his iso below 800 to avoid noise. I'm trying to avoid buying another lens - cost, weight, teenager etc
