OK - after 23 replies, I am convinced to use my lens hoods. (btw, thank you for the turn out in replies)
So here goes this one. The lens hood on my big baby, the Sig 150-500 mounts onto the lens with a 90 deg clockwise twist. Really nice design since the lens cap can stay on and the hood can be put on backwards in a 'stowed' position - my compliments to Sigma for this one.
Back to business...the hood becomes loose when installed. Any fixes out there? I was thinking of putting a little spot of RTV at the end of the 'thread' for it push into.

Good choice :) In any case, it's not as if you can't take it off if you find a good reason for doing so.

I didn't try rtv, but I did add a VERY small amount of the appropriate sort of cement to the bearing surface of the hood. I finally found something in black used for gluing plastic pipe together that bonds to the hood plastic. Sanded it down to basically a thin film and it now fits as I prefer.

Having said that, the tighter fit may result ins increased lens finish wear.

But to be honest, it's probably the unicorns.

For anyone still here. I got looking close at my Sigma 150-500 and it has a detent for the lens hood - but it's only on one screw on track of the two. I was putting it on wrong probably 90% of the time. Hyman Rickover once said "given a 50-50 decision, a man will invariably choose the wrong one".
I marked the two components with white out dots and back to shooting.

I gotta share this.
I reviewed the instructions for this lens again and it says that for the Optical Stabilizer (OS) to work, hold the shutter release half way for a second. I missed that little gem the first time through.
