Nice to see you around Jean-Philippe ! I'm glad you enjoy your Nikon jump ship. Your last shots with the D810 are really great; the "fox" is so cute and "the offering" a blessing !

Too bad you have to sell this beauty. I hope someone with a K-1 will fell in love with it : still a lot to give from an old lens like this on this camera, especially for a good photographer like you ;-)

Best regards, Fred

Nice to see a lot of old gems coming out nowadays : the K-1 effect ? :)

A* 1200mm F/8 ED, FA* 250-600mm F/5.6 IF&ED, A 645 600mm f/5.6, FA 300mm f/2.8 IF ED, ... I haven't seen all these beast for sale at once for a long time.

Regards, Fred

Maybe, maybe not. The K-1 means these lenses have a market and aren't completely worthless. On the other hand, if the seller had a K-1 they wouldn't be getting rid of them.

Thanks fred, I guess you have seen the pictures on my Flickr account ?

Here is the offering, to share with others... the D500 10 fps helps

Too bad that there is hardly any Sigma Art lenses available in K mount, I would have bought a K1 to get image stabilisation on these fine lenses.

Speaking about the switch to Nikon, it was the logical route to improve but it cost me a lot a money - the price of a beautiful car. Anyway I prefer invest money in lenses and anyway I have also switched to electric car - Renault Zoe.

2 years after having started switch, here are my feelings :

D810 autofocus is no as good as expected. Coming from the Pentax land, I must say that Pentax AF is fair, and D810 AF isn't that great. But the arrival of new Nikon D500 was a game changer. That's the AF every wildlife shooter was praying for, and since yesterday I got the D850 that has the same AF with full format and 45 Mpixel sensor.

FA*600 is really a very good lens, but heavy. I had an impressive Pentax gear collection with A*1200 f8, FA*600 f4, 2 FA*300 f2.8, FA*400 f5.6 and A*200 macro, and the FA*600 is the best of the gang. A*1200 was a disappointment. A*300 f2.8 needs to be stopped down too much to remove purple fringing that it exhibits wide open. All these lenses are showing their age now, and the fact they are not designed for high resolution sensors.

It took me more than one year to have the gear right in hand to concentrate on composition instead of technique. In the beginning I found my pictures were sharpers because of better gear but lack something I had with my Pentax gear.

regards

I don't know. Probably they are just traders. However at that price, they don't seem to be to hurry to sell it. Is a fortune to me, i could just get the k1 and several great lenses with that money.

Yes on your Flicker collection :)

Nice to see you ended up with such an impressive collection from Nikon in just a few years ! The results with the D500 and D810 are already great. I wish you'll find the D850 as good or better than your D500 ;-)

Amazing to see that your 800mm is lighter than my old F* 250-600 ! and even lighter than the Sigma, but at a price ;-)

By the way, how does the Sigma 180mm compare against the good old A* 200mm macro ? At least, great results (butineuses) at this size from the D810 and the Sigma.

Too bad there's nothing like this on the Pentax roadmap yet :( I'd rather buy a DFA 135mm f/2 first, but ... (nice results too with your 105mm f/1.4!)

Best regards, Fred

PS:

Some prices are a bit exagerated right now, especially the 200mm macro lenses (no equivalent, a real need for some people, and "almost" easy to use), but this FA 600mm seems to be fair especially for a photographer knowing what to expect (lot of time to learn how to use it but some special bokeh and colors to play with). A fortune but well spent for those who can afford it ?

Hi Fred,

I must say, the sigma has internal focusing - it doesn't extend at close focusing - and has image stabilisation too (this latter feature is not usefull on macro shots). The FA*200 macro has internal focusing but it is the hardest lens to find second hand and the price is crazy.

IQ wise, there is some fringing on the 200 macro which doesn't exist on the sigma.

Sigma lenses aren't that great on color reproduction

The sigma is an f2.8 lens, it is heavy, more than the 200f4, and I would like a modern version of the Nikon 200f4. I agree that the A* 200 f4 Pentax is overpriced. I sold mine at an higher price that I paid for :-)

In the recent month Nikon has released some really great lenses - I think of the 105 f1.4 and the 70-200 FL. I'm also leaning towards Zeiss milvus lenses, too bad that Zeiss doesn't support Pentax anymore, I would have bought a K1

Regards
