I guess, stating the obvious, only Nikon knows what, if any profit, they are still making from the 1 series ( J5, V3 ) and the lenses -and what the economics are of keeping it going by R&D design and tooling, marketing etc etc for a, maybe, V3 Mk 2 with the BSI sensor from the J5.
Even if they have a design in the can, its going to be difficult to sell a new 'V' to other than die hard N1 users. In the UK, for example, I think even the J5 is sparse on the ground from high street retailers.
For me, orphan system or not, I will continue to use the system as a super light weight and small but capable 'travel' system until I can't get replacement used V1 bodies. I've picked up 2 V1's and all the lenses and the ft-1 apart from the 10-100 and the 32 for around 1100 UK pounds - used of course. I gave up on m43 when I just couldn't get the wide zoom cheap enough and its gathering dust at the moment - for digital, its either DX/FX or N1 I use now.
Personally, I would not be likely to shell out another 1k for a new V series though - I would rather put that to upgrading my D750 to a D850 - in the same way I had never spent serious money on Oly eg for 'pro' glass. If only the J5 had a b***y evf...
Most people on this forum are well aware of the limitations of the N1 - and its advantages - but I think it's now a niche market for a new V model - Nikon would find it really hard to push that out there to a wider audience and probably has no appetite for that after the DL and key mission debacles.
Incidentally, the 6.7-13 is brilliant - its been stuck on one of the V1's since I got it a few months ago. The 70-300 0r 30-110 alternate on the other body. OK this system is nowhere near an FX in IQ but I get everything, including flash and el15 and charger in a retrspective 5 bag - and its all there with me - any time I go travelling - unbeatable as far as I am concerned ( in the absence of the DL's ).
