Help? I just purchased a Qflash and I'm having trouble using it correctly. When I set it to automode and select and Fstop...say 5.6 for example... and set my camera to the same setting I'm finding that my shots are frequently overexposed. Am I doing something wrong?

As I currently understand things, Manual mode enables me to select more or less power in pre-set steps which I simply meter until my desired fstop is reached. Auto on the other hand auto-mode should allow me to simply dial in an fstop which matches my camera setting and shoot away. Any help or further explanation on how these settings work would be greatly appreciated.

You don't give enough details. Such as .. what is the ISO you are shooting at and what is your working distance and what kind of reflectors / diffusers are you using or whether you are shooting barebulb.

From the little info you give, I would assume your working distance is far too close for a flashgun this powerful.

You have it correct.

Yes, but within certain limits. Remember, the electronics and thyristor in the flashgun need time to react and cut off the flash burst .. so if you are working at too close a distance with too wide an f-stop, it WILL over-expose.

On another note .. I would be VERY curious to know if your Q-TTL mode works, assuming you are shooting digital with it. Check this thread ..

Thanks for the feedback. You points make a lot of sense. I do have the new T2d which offers ttl metering with digital cameras but I don't have the ttl adapter yet. I will be getting it soon at let you know how it performs.
