I went out for a walk this afternoon with a 35 mm f 1.8 prime lens hoping to find some street photography opportunities. At some point I spotted kids getting crazy about soap bubbles and an open air dancing practice by the local castle. Golden hour was a temptation to leave all shots color, but B&W defends itself pretty well in my opinion..

well done. fun, playful, active, and a couple of the ones that isolate individual children belong on a wall!

I'll go with the fifth

Lone bubbler with few background distractions.

Soap bubbles usually contain colors, so that would have been nice to see in color rendition.

great set that capture the pure joy of the interaction with the bubbles. some great keepers there. don't know how you'd pick a favorite.

i think you are lucky to take these photos. if you did this here in the states some paranoid parent would chase you down thinking that you were going to do something bad with a photo of their child or that you are trying to steal a part of their soul in a photograph.

Thank you very much for your kind comments. Luckily in my corner of the globe people haven't gotten that crazy about their privacy and rights to images of themselves and their family members. Usually, when there is some action happening, you may just point your camera and shoot, nobody really cares.

Just for comparison let me post a few shots from the set in their color version, hope you will enjoy them too.

There is a very obvious problem that runs through all the b&w images. Does anyone here know what it is?

I showed these to a friend who is NOT a photographer. He immediately asked, "why do they all look so dull"?

Anyone here know what the problem is besides myself? OP, let me know if you want an answer/suggestion. Is this a show and tell or a photography forum. I'm thinking the former based upon the responses here.

.

The images which simplify the often cluttered background work best. Nice moments.

In most, the shadows all seem fairly blocked up. Some levels adjustments might relieve the murk. The low-keyness doesn't really comport with the exuberance of the subject(s).
