HSS issues with Godox X1T-o on G80?

Has anybody experienced problems with HSS in combination the Godox X1T-o transmitter?

When I use my Godox TT350-o flash on my G80, HSS works (or seems to, anyway) all the way up to 1/4000.

When I place the X1T-o on the flash, with the TT350-o connected as slave, I can see the shutter at all speeds, as a bright band at the top of the picture. When I adjust the delay (a custom function) on the X1T, I can get an evenly lit picture up to 1/320, above that bright and/or black bands are visible.

Is it just me not understanding HSS on this camera, or is there something wrong with the Godox setup? (which is very new, so it may be bleeding edge at work)

Only up to 1/320, with some tweaking. Which is technically HSS (normal sync is 1/160 max), but not as high as on-camera.

Not using an X1T so can't say if that's the case, but often these types of issues are caused by the wireless delay. Sometimes simply switching flash curtain sync from 1st to 2nd or vice versa can fix it. Other times it's a matter of interference from other electronic equipment in the environment. Or it might just be faulty, who knows.

I am having this issue as well. Did you ever find a solution?

I'm using US panny GX-85, X1T-O, 2xAD-200's. All firmware is up to date. HSS turned off everything fine, turn HSS on and I get banding. Playing with the delay function from the X1T-O will impact where the banding is, up to 1/320 I can trial and error the band away, but changing shutter speed causes me to redo the trial and error process all over. Above 320 the bands will be there as far as I can tell. 1st / 2nd curtain (from the camera) does not resolve the issue.

:sad

I have the gx85, Godox TT350 and X1T-O. At 1/4000 sec I get a light light band at the top of the photo when using the flash off camera and triggered with the X1T.

With the flash on the camera at 1/4000 the band is narrower...Is this what the thread is about?

HSS 1/4000 Off camera flash
HSS 1/4000 Off camera flash

HSS 1/4000 flash on camera
HSS 1/4000 flash on camera

Yeah, that banding is what is going on with my recently acquired X1T-O and GX-85 triggering the AD-200 with HSS. Do you also have the issue when using the TT350 in HSS when it is mounted on the GX-85 and no transmitter in the loop?

I'm wondering if it is HSS + GX-85 issue, or if it is just an X1T-O + GX-85 issue. I did send Godox email yesterday but have not heard back yet. I did more testing today, changed the head on the AD-200's, independently tested each (I have two), took modifiers out of the mix (the speed of light is kinda fast so that's just dumb but the trouble shooter in me just wants to simplify the test and eliminate variables) same results really 1/320 seemed to work, sometimes a little faster but not usually.

Have you seen any info elsewhere on the issue? Seems like all review's are "HSS at 1/1trillionth of a second working perfectly!!" but at least three of us here are having an issue with GX-85 and X1T-O combo. There was another thread saying crank the power up, which makes since and I did, but I still can't get 1/1000 or anything near there much less 1/2000. Just want to get the gear working as advertised, not sure what to do next but ship it back, but that sux.

Tried again this morning with brand new batteries in flash and X1T.

Same thing...large band using X1T on camera and flash off camera. 1/4000 sec HSS.

Smaller band with flash mounted on camera 1/4000 sec HSS.

Same thing happens at lower shutter speed, in the HSS zone.

Guess some sort of delay in play between the two exposures.

X1T on camera...flash off camera HSS 1/4000
X1T on camera...flash off camera HSS 1/4000

Flash on camera 1/4000 sec HSS
Flash on camera 1/4000 sec HSS

Here is an example of how HSS works

HSS
HSS

From the photos I shot this morning not sure what to take away from this. Is the initial burst of flash exposing the sensor before the curtain is gaining momentum?? I have no idea...Hope you will let me know if you hear back from Godox...good luck with that...but I agree, it sucks...

BTW. Thanks to this site here for the info

Hi

Just tried this combo on my G80 and with all speeds upto and including 1/4000 I get no banding, all I got was a well exposed image, so sorry no help with your issue.

Just to show it does work.

I assume you had HSS switched on on both the TT350-o and the XT1-o, thats what I have on my setup.

Paul

Yes HSS on both...Make sure you are not shooting with 16:9 ratio as the band is cropped out...

Ok so confession time

The image I was test shooting at had a light background so I could not see the banding and assumed it was not there on mine

I recreated the image used above and sure enough I also get the banding.

I also have the Godox v860ii flash guns as well and tied it with them and with those I get no banding, so it must be an issue with the TT350 though what it might be I have not got a clue.

Shot with TT350-o HSS off Camera triggered by T1X-o

You are absolved of your sins.... Isn't that a bit of banding with the 860 in the 2nd. photo. ?

What I have noticed is that with the TT350 on camera, shutter speed 160 sec and the HSS turned on on the flash, you get the banding...with the HSS turned off the banding disappears so I guess sync issue with the Godox flash and trigger units.

Not sure about the second photo, I was just thinking it's light drop off as it's darker.

Still don't use HSS myself so neither will be an issue yet, famous last words and all that ;)

Not sure if this helps but I find my Godox HSS off-camera will band when the flash gets to about 1/16 power. Try reducing your exposure to force the flash power up to say 1/2. Not saying it is right but banding is common at lower power.

i just tried it with my gx85. yes, there is a definite banding on top. i purposely underexposed one shot and another close to correct exposure. it happens in both.

on-camera, tt350o works in HSS, but not off-camera.

this is indeed a problem. is it the X1T or the TT350?

has any one found a solution?

Thanks all for the good info. I do not have a resolution but will be actively trying to find a solution and will keep reaching out to Godox. I will post in this thread any info they provide. I hope this is a timing issue that a firmware update can resolve.

While it stink's we're all having an issue...repeatable identifiable consistent issues like this are solvable, it's when some units act like this some like that which is less likely to get resolved. Furthermore this is repeatable across multiple products (X1T-O, AD-200, TT350, and maybe v860ii). Considering it is occurring both on and off camera, it seems to be a general Godox HSS when paired with the GX-85 / GX-80 issue.

For me cranking up the power reduced but did not eliminate the banding, but it definitely has an impact. I still can't get to fast fast shutter speeds though.

Godox, you have a lot of positive press right now, show us you deserve it by resolving the problem with firmware. It's an opportunity to shine!

Cranking up the power ?

Surely the flash and camera should be doing this.

What flash mode are you using, auto ttl or something else.

I'm learning so trying lots of different stuff, but the "crank the power" comment was referring to putting the flash in manual mode at 1/1 power. When I had the AD-200 at lower power levels the banding was different.

this thread discusses the issue https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4196540

For HSS try the flash set to auto TTL, effective range is rather limited using HSS, chances are your going to be needing to use this fairly close to the subject.

For effective and realible HSS its best to use the largest and most powerful flash you can find, especiall if ou want to factor in flash modifiers as well.

When my TT350o arrived I thought HSS was broken since the flash worked but banding was obvious when I moved the shutter speed high enough. TTL also seemed wonky.

Turns out the hotshoe mount was a bit tight and I hadn't pushed it all the way in. Somehow I had pushed it just enough so that it worked as a manual flash but not enough that the sync pins would connect. I guess it exposed correctly enough that I didn't realize it didn't actually have TTL.

This is with GX80.
