Dear Fujifilm X users

I am a casual shooter (light travel, street, food photo) currently using a canon 450D. I have being saving a while. Recently want to buy into the Fujifilm system and there is a XT-1 + Battery grip with 18-55 lens for 1000$ (which is exactly my budget) do you guys thing it's worth it in 2017 ? if not what other options do you suggest ?

1000 thanks in advance for your advices !

In the X-T1 deal I had some months ago, the battery grip was also included. It is useful with larger lenses; e.g. shooting with my 18-135 is so much more comfortable with the grip, but with the 27mm pancake it is awkward ;-) Or useful when you want to have more battery power in cam for some reason.

I have no experience with the 18-55 though so cant specifically comment on that, but seems a nice kit lens, based on other users' comments here. The X-T1 is a solid camera, and if you like the ergonomcs, and dont "need" the newest of the newest, then it's an excellent choice. Price-wise, check other offers and see if this deal is competitive.

O and keep in mind the Fuji-batteries are costly too, add 60-80$ to the bill if its not included in the package (usually it isn't).

I just recently got my first Fuji, the X-T20.

I recommend the X-T20 for many reasons. You can buy it new with 16-50 kit lens for $1000. If you get the 18-55 with it it's another $200. I got it with the 16-50 because I prefer a wider beginning to the zoom and I saved some money which I put towards a 23/2 prime lens.

There is a very good review comparing the X-T1 to the X-T20 here:

For my use the T20 has the new 24MP sensor, better autofocus, touchscreen, built in flash, and smaller more discreet size and weight.

On the other hand the X-T1 has much better viewfinder, weather proofing, better grip, option to use with battery grip, and better deals with discounts on various lenses like the 18-135mm that you can't get with the X-T20.

I sold my X-T1 (with batter grip) to get an X-T2. While I'm happy with my purchase, I can't say it was an absolutely essential one. The X-T1 is still a great camera in 2017. Get the latest firmware and it's reasonably competitive for auto-focus speed and accuracy.

On the other hand, the X-T20 is really an amazing value that gives you the latest sensor. It should come in close to your budget when purchased new. I would strongly consider that option.

From what you described as your typical use, I think you might be happier with the smaller size and lighter weight of the X-T20. It's a bit more portable and easier to tuck in when you're on the go. As someone else pointed out, if you buy it with the XC 16-50 kit lens you pay the same price as the X-T1 package, and you get a light weight lens as well. Plus you get the advantage of the newer sensor and improved autofocus.

But if you're strongly drawn to the X-T1 that's a good deal and you'll probably enjoy the camera. The latest tech isn't everything. Enjoying using the camera is as important.

...latest and greatest? If you're considering getting your feet wet with the Fuji system, I'd suggest something even less expensive, such as an X-E1 or X-E2 - with either the inexpensive (yet optically superb) XC 16-50 f3.5-5.6 OIS, or the XF 18-55 f2.8-4 OIS lens.

Why? Because you won't break the bank and in the event you don't like the Fuji system (hey, we're all different), then psychologically you won't get all depressed about it.

Now don't get me wrong as I have the X-T1 - a very, very nice camera. But there are some fantastic deals out there with the X-E1 and X-E2 - two cameras that I maintain and will not part with - and perhaps you may want to check into these also. After all, IQ-wise, you won't notice a difference at all between the X-T1, X-E1, X-E2 (all 16 MP X-Trans cameras). The differences lie in the options available within the camera system.

Just my two cents worth. Keep in mind that I'm a certified international camera slut with a huge collection of goodies (see profile) and I've tried so many. But I always stress to people sitting on the fence or wanting to get their feet wet with a new system to spend the least amount of money they can. This way if you really enjoy Fuji and how they do things and render colors, then you have additional options for acquiring newer and better models.

Just my two cents worth and I'm stickin' wid it!!!!! ;-)

even though you're probably leaning towards something with capability of using multiple lenses I can't help but recommend the x100 series. x100t can be had for around $700. it's a blast and you can take it anywhere. it's back to basics photography and though a tad limiting it really gets the creative juices flowing.

I like my X-E2 so much I recently picked up another one. I keep a different lens on each one, I like to shoot primes. Really you will get the exact same image with the XE2 or the XT1 but I prefer the smaller size and weight of the former. And they can be had for around $350!

why do you think you need the battery grip
The battery grip makes the XT1 a bad ass piece of equipment: makes it easier to hold onto (smaller isn't better IMHO), extends the battery life considerably, makes vertical shooting a bit easier and looks cool.

I have an XT1 with battery pack and I can strongly recommend the battery pack. I like having a substantial camera grip to hold onto (XT10/20 never appealed to me because of their small size) and the battery pack makes the XT1 easy to shoot one handed if you are so inclined. And you can shoot almost all day long without changing batteries.

The XT1 is also an amazing camera and its 16mp sensor takes great images. And the 18-55 is a great piece of glass. So for $1,000 you are getting a deal my friend!!! You will be using that XT1 and 18-55 for a long long time as your main camera.

You can get excellent Watson batteries for Fuji cameras from B&H for $19.

Sorry to be chiming in so much,,I have both an XE1 and XT1 and both cameras are excellent, well built, loads of features...I don't regret the XT1 battery pack..you can leave it off if the weight bothers you but I gotta say I very much enjoy this camera with the battery pack! And the dials make the XT1 very old school, it's a fun camera and if you are having fun then you will be more apt to take pictures.

I do wish I had the 18-55mm lens though..in fact I'd trade my 23mm f2 and 27mm f2.8 to get a 18-55...might have to break down and go looking for one. I've always been a prime lens guy but the images from the 18-55 are excellent and it is a convenience.

So while there are many Fuji deals out there, speaking from experience as a guy with bad GAS, you will absolutely love that XT1 kit you have your eye on.

Yes...that is a good deal!

why do you think you need the battery grip
I don't recall the OP inquiring about a battery grip. He is not asking for an opinion on the grip.

...as of yet, so I can't comment. If I did, I would want to ensure that full AF is possible with these adapters.

But in getting back to the ridiculously low prices of the likes of the X-E1 on eBay, if someone was trying to get their feet wet with another brand, this is the way to do it. Then of course, if you do wind up with the X-E1, make sure to do the FW updates right away. The IQ of the X-E1 and X-E2 are virtually identical. The only differences are increased options in the X-E2, along with more options for AF. You tend to become hooked on these two cameras after using them for awhile.

Are as they as fast as your Nikon DSLR's. No. But the IQ and the enjoyability factor olf the cameras (IMO, of course) offsets that factor.

A battery grip is included in the offer being considered. So opinions on the grip make the comments more complete regarding value of the package :-)

X-T10 with a kit lens XC 16-50 or XF 18-55, cheap and pretty good quality

X100F is also very nice but it's expensive for a casual shooter, with an X-T10 you can upgrade the lens whenever you want in case you want to go further in photography later
