A9 + Extension Grip + 24-70 GM ( Really love this performance combo).

I used these MotoCross recommended settings here w/ Wide Focus Area:

Last time I posted similar content and some mentioned they like to see less cropping and more environment. Hence the wider frames else I would normally crop right into the subject.

Thank you! Really lucky these guys let me get out on the track. Even though mud + sand flying everywhere under the baking Florida sun...nothing like getting close to the action. So far the only effect of these hot/humid elements is a little sand/mud in my mouth, eyes and ears and thanks to sun screen I don't look like a piece of Sunday morning breakfast bacon.

Thanks for noticing the wider look! This is one of my favorite venues. Every time I attend, I meet some of the friendliest people and their support teams. From big names to just starting out, it's always a pleasure to capture the moment on this track.

I also think the framing is great. How was your hit rate?

how well did the camera keep up?

Thank you Mike! The camera keeps up for sure. Am using it now for BIF and Sports. 693 AF points all over the frame = almost too easy :-) Getting best hit rate for very fast moving subjects in strong Florida light with Wide AF. Doing my best to go light on the shutter so not to take too many images.

cool set of pics! gotta love motorsports that's shot with e-mount!!

At least with e-shutter you're not wearing out the mechanical shutter. But still you could easily end up with thousands of shots to review. Just upgraded to an a9 and am trying to find the best/fastest software to downselect the best shots from bursts. (Mostly JPG for now)

Very nice work. Good at orig. size. The clouds really help the B (bike) IF images. Looks a fun day out. I usually use the Nikons with 24-120 f4 and 70-200 f2.8 vr II for India Bike Week (only time we have Hill Climbs/ Motocross) . The a7ii just did not hack it and only used it for Static Displays. The a9 looking good :)

Oh that's interesting. Didn't realize there was a software out there that could do the culling for you. Looks like I was able to keep it at about 4-5 shots per pulse firing which his very manageable in post. In some cases I let it go when the subject was coming straight on close to my position and I wanted to see how close I could keep the focus on the subject.

Also, this is the first outing I chose to go 100% silent which for the most part worked out much better than expected. It did take me a few seconds to trust the visual clue in the EVF but once I had that down I didn't pay attention anymore and it seemed pretty natural not to hear the shutter to judge how many frames I was firing.

If you are into performance photography and Emount, IMO almost everything about the A9 is an upgrade from the A7x series.

For now I am using both the A7r2 and the A9. At first I thought I might have a problem going down from the A7r2 42MP to the A9's 24MP. But so far, I have been happy with what I have been able to do with the RAWS coming out of the A9.

there is an option in the menu system to have the camera blank the EVF after the first shot. I find this very helpful to get that immediate visual feedback that the burst has started, especially useful if you turned the audio shutter off. It's very quick and then the live view continues after that

I was not aware of this feature. Good to know! Makes me wonder what other little features in this camera that I've yet to explore.
