Hi all, I am getting a used 50s and wanted to check the shutter count or shutter activations and on the FB GFX someone said with an EXIF viewer you can see that info, so I looked a few RAWs of the GFX from online postings and I did not see anything that showed Shutter count or anything like that.

I read some say no and some say yes, do you look at the RAW or JPEG file for that info if it's there?

Other than looking at the shutter blades or condition of the body I really wanted to get an idea of the shutter count.

Any ideas?

Thanks zman

Given that the GFX's shutter is good for at least 150,000 actuations, and that's not including shots taken using the electronic shutter - what would a thousand or two actuations matter?

Here's the EXIF field in RawDIgger:

Image Count field counts shutter clicks
Image Count field counts shutter clicks

Dunno if ES clicks are included. In Sony cameras, they are not.

Thanks Jim, I just downloaded it and I opened an RAF file and yes under Image Count, now question is this really the Shutter Count or clicks or just what this image count is, if that makes any sense or is this the closest we can get to the # of shots from the GFX as Canon you can connect to the body and see how many clicks on the shutter?

Thanks again Jim!

I know it goes up by one with every click of the EFCS or mechanical shutter. I don't know about the ES, but I would be surprised if it counted those actuations.

Hi Chris, why I would matter, is I want to know how much use this body has been used, and second depending on how many clicks it has on it, I may return it and pay more for a new 50s with warranty or if a few thousand the maybe keep it.
I think people make too much of shutter counts. In 60 years of photography -- much of it pretty intensive -- I've never had a shutter fail. I have subjected several cameras to between 100,000 and 250,000 mechanical shutter operations. And, in the unlikely event that a shutter fails, it's usually not a super-expensive repair ( I say that last based on estimates that I've seen , not from experience).

Great Jim works for me, and now I can get an idea how much my used GFX has shot with the shutter.

I recently bought a gfx50s and shutter count was reset to 0 according to raw digger. The user said he did a reset to set the camera settings before sending it to me, how do you actually get the true image count?

The reason to do this is to sell a camera. A lot of buyers want to know. Affects value.

In my minds, the used camera market's, ahem, focus, on shutter count is misguided. I think it's mostly a matter of looking for your keys under that lamp post.

Can't say about 50S, but for 100S, even the ES shutters are being counted, and also any video recording instances ups the image count by 1.
