So as I was testing stuff with my new PL8-18 yesterday I shot this photo - 5 seconds hand-held (I wasn't even expecting a good result, just wanted to see how the frame comes up). As I was looking it now in LR, I was shocked to see how sharp this is.

Nice job. Amazing . Here is one that I took handheld . Check the EXIF data

Very impressive.

We don't see many threads like this on the FF forums 🤗

If you don't get older and wiser, than you just get older.
A nice thread on long, handheld exposures can barely get off the ground before it gets hijacked by a FF bashing contest.

Yes, we can shorten that time. The op should have started bashing right away.

I think that is precisely the point of a long hand held exposure thread - IBIS makes a huge difference. Any camera without it (not just FF) is at a distinct disadvantage for hand held long exposures.

Bye Bye tripod for you.

I still have to lug one around, I've got a GX8 and can only dream of shutter times like that.

Yeah, at 8mm and 14mm I can do handheld 5 seconds on a bad day with my MS and also having low blood sugar. 25mm and out is where it gets to be a challenge.

It ain't easy being me, but someone's gotta do it.

do you comprehend the concept of the smilely face? Do you comprehend the concept of a real bash? Nothing was about FF being bad, just about the virtues (that means positive) things about the latest m43 technology - which is the theme of this thread, 5 seconds handheld. What other system can do that?

Should be "then you just get older".
i guess one of use is a child looking for attention and it is not me. In case you missed it, that is a bash. 😃 Also time for me to stop playing with little children so will not bother with more exchanges here.

Nice!

Last weekend, at a trade fair, I attended a Olympus presentation and the rep claimed one of their photogs shot the milky way 14s handheld using the E-M1 II.
Yeah - that photo was published also in 43rumors. Amazing shot - quite unbelievable it was shot handheld.... I am not sure my hands are stable enough, though I have to say - the IS is amazing. During this shot I did - I could FEEL I'm NOT stable enough, and yet the image came out so sharp. This alone was worth the upgrade to EM1.2

No more examples of long handheld exposures. My point.
There's plenty of examples floating around, I've got any number between 2 to 4 seconds with an em1mk2 @12mm and that's completely safe territory. Longer then 4 seconds gets a bit harder but I've yet to try the new 12-100 and dual IBIS

interesting I handed the camera to someone one night that has visible shakes of their hands and got them to take a 3 second shoot and it was fine, it seems that the IBIS likes to have movement to actually analyze

Great image and honestly exactly what I would expect you can achieve, the naysayers literally have no idea :) just how good this can be
