Uncomfortable strap on Peak Design Everyday Backpack

I love peak design stuff. I have their wrist strap and clutch, and peak design sling bag and everyday backpack. The design is very good, with many cool features that none of the other manufacturer has thought of.

However, does anyone else thinks that the straps on the everyday backpack are too rigid, and uncomfortable to wear? It goes the same for the sling bag too. It is so much harder than traditional foam, padded shoulder straps.

I'm not a huge fan of the shoulder straps, and already gave them feedback directly about it. I don't think they guy at PD who responded really got what I was trying to explain though.

The problem isn't so much the lack of padding, it's that the sternum strap twists the hard edge of the shoulder straps the wrong way into the chest.

Ok i haven't thought of that.

thats a design issue then? not just a material issue.

I don't mind the strap stiffness per se, but the pivots are a bad idea, as they make it really easy for the strap to spread out away from your shoulders and no longer hold securely. This is compounded by the positioning of the sternum strap, too high so that it chokes.

Huh, I like the pivot points. It's an unusual solution to the problem of fixed-width straps (e.g. women typically have narrower shoulders) supposedly fitting all.

It still chokes you even when you connect it to the lower attachment points?
Less so, but they are harder to get to because of the stitches getting in the way. The straps have clearly not been designed for the beefier among us.

Bump.

I'm in the camp that find the PD Everyday Backpack straps uncomfortable. For me, they are just too hard/stiff, when the pack has a moderate load. So I'm trying to decide if I want to keep the 20L that I bought.

So, for those who initially found the straps uncomfortable and now have some miles on the pack - Have they become more comfortable? Do they "break-in" at all?

Thanks,
James

They don't really break in, you just get used to them. Tightening the straps regularly does help.

Thanks. Although, that's kinda what I was afraid of.

I've been walking around my house all week with the Everyday loaded up on my back, and I think, "OK.. it's not THAT bad"... Then I pick up a loaded MindShift or LowePro and it feels like I'm wearing a cloud. Unfortunately, it doesn't have the features (or style) of the Everday that I'm after. :(
