$500-$600 camera for stills and video

This is gonna be my first camera. I will only be sticking with the kit lens. A good balance between photo quality and video features is what I'm looking for. Thanks a bunch!

Panasonic GX85 can be found in that range used, or $700 new. You'll likely not want to sell it for a long time, even after "upgrading". It's compact, shoots great 4K video, has a decent still sensor and IBIS, so you can shoot without a tripod or gimbal in most situations.

If you can't afford that, its predecessor, the G7 is an excellent camera. You lose in-body stabilisation, but save a wad of cash.

The G7 isn't the predecessor to the GX85, it's the predecessor to the G85. The GX85 is only $100 more than the G7 and is well worth the extra price unless you really need the SLR body style. Also, if the OP intends to use the camera for any video work not mounted on a tripod, losing IBIS is hardly a worthwhile tradeoff for $100...
