This is the kit lens that came on my wife's D3000 back about seven years ago. It works great, for a beginning photographer. The AF is fast, and the VR feature helps out in low light. But the finest feature about this old lens is cost and the fact that it works on older DX cameras such as it will likely find a home. It's marked as AF-S, which fits a much wider array of old camera bodies, and new ones, as well.
I saw one of these in a pawn shop marked $50, a few weeks ago.
For more money, you can buy a newer, and better lens. But this one has VR that works, it's decently sharp, and it's dirt cheap today as a used lens.
For the person who has a DX Nikon camera, and wants a good kit zoom lens for about fifty bucks, this one is hard to beat for the price.
Because of the bang for the buck, this old lens gets five stars from me.
