It must have happened inside my camera bag. I just noticed several tiny coloured streaks on the LCD screen and was wondering what the heck that was. As it turns out they are tiny scratches.

As someone who has used nothing but optical view finder for the past 15 years, I can't get used to the EVF so I always use the LCD to frame my shots on the a6500. And these streaks are going to drive me nuts!!

Anything can be done to fix this other then replacing the entire LCD?

Get a screen protector and get used to using the EVF since it is MUCH better than using the LCD for framing pictures. The EVF on the a6500 is one of the best EVF's on any MICL on the market, if it is anywhere as good as the a6300.

Using the LCD on any high-quality camera is like using a cell phone to frame your shots. If you don't like using and EVF vs an OVF, you are using the wrong camera and made the wrong choice in cameras. There is a huge difference between an EVF and OVF, you should have known the difference when choosing a camera.

If you have already scratched up the LCD in such a short time, whose fault it that?

Mine must be made of stronger stuff.

Or maybe it's because the only thing in my camera bag is my camera...

Ok but what can I do to fix these streaks?? Is there a coating on the LCD that can just be reapplied or how much is a new screen?
Just forget about using the LCD if you have already screwed it up and scratched it. There is nothing I know that can rejuvenative it. Just learn how to use the EVF and forget about using the LCD when framing a shot. I have an LCD protector to keep mine from getting scratched, but I hardly ever use the LCD when framing a shot. That is why you have such a great EVF on your camera. Try to learn how to use it when taking pictures, it will benifit you in the long run.

Regarding how much does it cost to replace an LCD screen, only Sony can answser that question. I've never had it done, becuase I use screen protectors.

I would try putting on the $14 Sony screen protector and see if it masks the scratches enough that you can live with it. If not, there have been threads on here about users replacing the outer layer of the screen on the old NEX-6 cameras which tended to delaminate or something. I have no idea if the a6500 LCD has the same construction. Search for those threads to see if you would want to tackle the job and then research the differences in screens between the cameras. Or you can send it to Sony and get an estimate.

This may help (I have installed it on my A6300).

I had scratches on the screen of my a6000 and they disappeared when I putted the screen protector

Unfortunately for you, you pay the price of not doing your research: Here and everywhere there is much, very much talk on how easily Sony LCDs scratch and what to do about it. There are literally dozens of posts like yours.

Now the cat is out of the bag, the screen is scratched ... so what? All you can do is live with your camera or buy a new one. And on that 'brand new' one: Order a screen protector the day before you order your Sony, since once the camera arrives you need to have one of those on hand and you need to put it on even before you charge the camera battery.

Lesson learnt ... the hard, the serious knocks of life way. Sorry, but so is life. The protector was probably offered as an accessory when you ordered but you decided to save those 10 $. Enjoy that extra tener in your wallet now.

I've put an expert shield screen protector when I first got the camera. I'm not sure if the semi-hard Sony screen protector will work well with the touch screen. Sorry to hear about your LCD scratches.

Just for reference, I've heard through word of mouth that this guy in the GTA area can do Sony camera repairs without costing an arm and a leg.

Since I've never used him, I can't personally recommend his services. However, if you don't want to go thru the sony repair route and your willing take a chance...

The product on that link is claimed to also work with the A6300. Seems strange given the 6300 screen is flat while the 6500 screen is not flat.

The a6500 screen is very different that the a6000 and a6300 and even more different than the true-black screens used in the early NEX camera range.

Grouping all 'Sony LCDs' together is silly.

I am silly, I know , but the OP's experience does prove my point, does it not?

What is yours? Point ?
