Never been to Maui.

Going for a whole week.

Want portability and good image quality, Not iphone shots

I have a big collection of Sony gear, both APSc and FF.

Sony a6500, 16-70f4, 16-50f2.8, 18-200 silver

Sony A7Rii, 16-35f4, 28-70 2.8gm, 24-240, 24-70 zeissf4, 70-300FeOss, 70-200gm, 28mmf2, 50mm f1.4, 55m f1.8, Batis 85mm and flashes.

I know there are overlapping lenses, I am in the process of selling some of them.

Subjects will be Maui and my beautiful wife.

Do not desire to take pictures of whales or surfers.

Never been there so i want your help. I was thinking a6500 but the zooms for it are not weather resistant...

PLease advise.

Thanks

FE28 and B85.

And then either A6500 with E18200

Or A7rII with FE24240

If you take the A7rII I would bring the FE55 too.

If you bring the A6500 I would bring the E1670Z too.

The FE1635Z is useful for scenery and attractions, not a must have, imho.

You will be mostly doing daytime shooting and some night scenes that are well illuminated.

You can take either superzoom and cover the entire day, then switch to primes after nightfall.

I wouldn't worry about water and sand, just bring a bag.

All other lenses are not needed, unless you want to publish images, and also bring a tripod.

Lastly, nothing is precluding you from bringing more gear and leave it in the hotel. Bring a small bag and select lenses for the day only, depending on activities planned.

Wow,

for me Maui is the most beautiful place on earth.

I went there with my Film camera Contax RTS III and various Zeiss, 50, 35 and 100-300

I am not giving you any advice on photo, but if you don't want to shoot windsurfers etc. then for example don't miss the hana highway. Alongway you will see the paradise on this planet.

Regards

Paolo

For the Haleakala sunrise, stitch with a 28 or 35. Dress warm. You OK with windy roads?

Hi

Maui is my favorite place, I've been there many times for windsurfing.

From your gear selection, I would take the 28 and the 85 primes, plus the A7R2. For the A6500 I would pick one zoom depending on what you like to photograph. Its best to keep camera gear on the light side, or you wind up paying too much attention to the gear and not experiencing the island. I have done that in the past. Don't leave gear in the car...it attracts thieves.

If you take the Hana Highway, don't miss Waianapanapa State Park, right before the town of Hana. It has a famous black sand beach and very interesting trails on the cliff above the ocean. Its easy to miss the park.

Have a great trip

Rick

From that selection, I'd take both bodies and the 16-35, and 55.

Small and light, high quality, then you've got a wide zoom/standard zoom and a normal length/telephoto, depending on the body.

Enjoy the trip, Hawaii is beautiful!

Thanks everyone for you suggestions.

A friend who shoots micro 4/3 suggested his EM1MK2 aand the 12-100 f4 alongwith the 25mm f1.2 and 42.5 mm f1.2 (his equipment that he is willing to let me use)

Showed me his pictures from his vietnam trip. He shot JPGs and they were beautiful. Vibrant and equally good noise quality as my a6500.

Should i take him up on his offer. I have used his camera on his daughtres birthday and the results were excellent and it was easy to use.

Thanks

Take:

1 camera with standard zoom

Plus one extra fast prime of the focal length of your choice. For when the light gets low and you need the lens speed.

Take a tripod.

Welcome to DPreview :)

Take Sony A7Rii, 16-35f4, 55m f1.8 and Batis 85mm :)

It sure sounds like you have more of a kit than you might ever need, if you have all of that and still don't know what would be appropriate for what you have in mind (not meant to be a dig or put-down). m4/3 may well be more than sufficient. I mainly took on Sony to be able to get more out of very low light endeavors - otherwise it's a fine photographic tool, and worth considering.
