$6000 A9 ! what is Sony really thinking? Maybe I am too poor

Yes, they are still selling the A5100 (Aug 2014) and A6000 (Feb 2014), but those are old models, almost 3 years old now. Still viable options, but in tech realms, way old.
Both are better cameras than Canon's latest comparable MILC offerings, and are still quite competitive. What is a better buy than the A6000 for the money? And would there be much value in weaksauce updates like Nikon's D3400/5600, just to stay "current"?
Sure the A7 is reasonable priced now, but it was $1300 originally, and this one is even older, October of 2013.
The original A7 was priced at $1700.
And yes it was nice to see a few more reasonable priced lenses come out, but nothing for the APS-C lenses since 2014.
I agree that there are still some gaps in the APS-C lineup, but the E mount lens lineup is only second to Fuji in the APS-C realm, including Canikon.
I still have and love my A6000. I plan on shooting with it until the day it dies. And yes, there have been no clear statements of "We no longer care about lower end APS-C cameras", but the actions speak for themselves. Sony clearly is focused on the higher end gear.
