5D IV battery, is everyone having problems?

I'm looking into a Canon 5D IV and have read comments about battery life. I'm getting a little worried, is everyone (a lot) having battery issues? I'm especially interested in poor battery life with wifi off, gps off, and the camera not being used (either on or off). I would love to hear from people if they are not experiencing any issues either. I expect it to be a little less than the 5D III, but hoping it's not dramatically lower. Thanks.

They've worked pretty well for me. I get about 800 shots on a battery, about 80 percent of what I'd get on the 7D2.

I set the Wi-Fi off but leave GPS on when camera is on only. I've been averaging about 750-800 shots using the LP-E6N battery.

Best,

Pat

Nothing to be worried about. You can get through a whole day of shooting on a single battery. I invested in a vertical grip that holds two batteries, so I can go for days. Plus I have better ergonomics IMO, albeit a little heavier.

The battery life shouldn't stop you from owning this great body...so much more to enjoy.

I've had zero problems with the battery. I even leave GPS on a lot of the times.

Only got mine yesterday but got a bit worried when i put my 80D battery in it, power dropped quite quickly (this was a good but not new battery). What worried me was i hadn't taken many shots yet lost 10% which an hour.

With a new battery ive got 98 shots and 74% battery left. This is on a first charge so im pretty happy that its normal, but is a drop from the mkiii. Understandable though.

WiFI and GPS are off, and ive only just used LV for a few shots.

My mate has a mkiv that will drain over night from 100% to 0% if he leaves a lens on it. Even when its turned off. This sounds like a fault though and ive not read many horror stories about this from others.

So, yes, its down on what we have been used to with previous cameras, but still good enough to last a normal day with one battery (hopefully). Burst shooting will of course give you 1000's of shots, but thats for another thread :-)

I just replaced my two 5D III with two 5D IV bodies. I keep the WiFi and GPS off but the 5D IV batteries drain at least 2-3 times as fast as with the 5D III. I'm using grips so there is little danger of running dry, but it is curious.

If your 5D IV is new, the internal battery gets charged when you insert the battery. It takes about 2 days to fully charge. So the initial battery useage seems excessive. Also, new Li-on batteries seem to become conditioned after 2-3 charge cycles. After a few weeks of use, you should be seeing the expected 900 shots/battery.

Thanks for the info, that's what I'm worried about. Do you know if they continue to drain when the camera is off?

You can choose whether the GPS is on full time, on only when camera is on or always off. The Wi-Fi is off/on.

Ive been keeping an eye on mine over the past 24 hours. Although the battery does of course run down a lot quicker, ive not seen any indication of battery drain while MY camera is off.

I say this with relief, as ive had this issue with other Canon bodies in the past, although it seemed to be lens related back then.

I'll be able to post a better answer tomorrow, but I think it is O.K.. Last night I had the batteries on the chargers so I don't have an answer this morning.

I wonder if the rumored firmware update might tweak the battery a bit? That's the kind of thing that is often addressed with cell phone/laptop updates. We'll see.

Please do post tomorrow if you have time, this is really helpful. Thanks again.

My last shoot I took over 1200 photos then because I was out of town and got bored went through them all and deleted 200 odd and still have 17%. I don't use picture review but I do manually look every now and then.

The battery drain on mine with the camera off is minimal if any. Mine has sat in the bag with a 70-200mm lens on it for over 2 weeks without draining the battery.
