Would you consider this a good deal or a steal?

I got the opportunity to buy a used d800 and some accessories.

Here's what is on sale and i got the lead bid.

Nikon D800

Nikkor 24-70 f2.8

Nikkor 80-200 f2.8

Nikon speedlight sb910

Extra battery, charger and a lowepro bag.

Im currently at 1567 $

To me this looks like a great deal and im hoping ill get it. But my real question is, how far up should i take my bidding if there will be another interested buyer?

It won't happen unless the seller gets what he wants to get out of it. It's an auction with no rules. A steal of a deal is unlikely to happen

I know what you mean. But this isnt in a auction like ebay or something like that. There is this guy selling his gear on a selling page on FB. He lives a couple of hours from me. I saw there werent any comments yet so i figured id make a move for it. As far as im concerned its me and another guy interested to buy. I was just wondering how far i should stretch to get it though. I cant go and inspect it myself cause im currently on work out at sea. So i just have to rely on his words and pictures.

Take all of the gear you are wanting to buy. Enter it into the B&H and KEH to sell on line calculators as if you are selling this gear to the camera store. Select condition I usually pick the best to figure out the max.

Add 20% to the bottom line and this is what the seller is trying to get on Ebay cause they have fees to pay

Basically take what this stuff costs new divide in half and if it is discontinued take away at least another 15% in depreciation

I dont think this entire set up is worth more than $2,000 if we are talking USD

remember what you pay for it you will also lose 50% on resale plus no Nikon warrantee if that matters.

More so if this stuff is Grey Market and you live in the USA more hassle for repair issues again if that matters to you

All this is assuming there actually is gear and not just pictures. If you insist on emailing him the money or something similar, you may as well just send the $1400 to me. At least I'll buy more Nikon gear with it. :)
lol

Depends on what your definition of a good deal is. Have you priced these items as new? How much of a discount would you be willing to accept for used gear? For me, I would not pay more than 66% of the new price for gently used gear currently in production. If it's not currently in production (D800), look at "sold listings" on ebay to see what such items have actually sold for.

In any case, don't bid until the last 10 seconds, otherwise you'll just drive the price up.
