keep you camera clean in a dusty environment?

I have carried a camera in the floorboard of my back seat for years under coats and towels to protect it from heat. But dust and grit is ever present.

I just got a newer one for this "ever-ready" purpose and would like to keep it cleaner.

I am thinking about zipping it in a one gallon freezer bag. Any idea if the bag could hurt it in any way? Or any better ideas for protection. A zipped camera bag can be too slow."

i know many of you will think it is a bad idea to carry a camera constantly in a car. However it allows me to get pictures any time and any place. I use my older cameras to reduce my financial risk. And the towels and coats really protect well from the heat.

Thanks for suggestions

I dont. I PS the dust out later on in PP.

...do.

I know some folks that have used plastic bags without problem. I just keep mine in my camera bag and have a hand towel in my bag to give the camera a good wipe down after each use. Seems to work for me!

A freezer bag is probably okay. At least you can keep a camera in your car. Where I live in days on end of 118-degree heat, I cannot keep any camera in my car for fear it will melt.

I have had it in car up to 101 degree. When I lifted it out from under all the towels and coats it was warm but no where near hot. I agree that 118 is probably too risky.

I still would not risk a new camera. That was a very old 20D which is still in use, and I gave less than $100 for the 30D that is there now.

thanks

I'm a photojournalist and have kept my cameras in the car trunk for years. No problem.

Plastic bag, I don't know the humidity level and differences between day and night in your region but I would be afraid to get it damaged by condensation.

Thanks--appreciate it!

Just leave it loose ready to go. Put the lens cap on if it's a good lens.

It will be fine.

A few cars ago, I found that many car have nothing in the lower part of the central console, where the legs of the middle passenger would be in the good old car that had 3 place in the front.

When I own the car and plan to go on long vacation with it, I usually try to remove what ever is there to build a room for my camera, that's the best place for a quick reach but you need to build a cover so it is not too visible when the car is parked.
