After a little over a month with it, I think this is the best overall camera on the market.
It might not be the best landscape camera. That honor probably goes to the Sony A7Rii or the Canon 5DSR. But it's close.
It might not be the best sports camera. That honor probably goes to the Nikon 5D or the Nikon D500 (for field sports that benefit from extra reach). But it's close.
It might not be the best wildlife camera. See above.
It might not be the best portrait camera. That honor probably goes to the Sony A7Rii. [No non EVF camera can stake a claim here.] But it's close.
But this incredible camera can do all of those things extraordinarily well, thanks to its brilliant 42 MP backlit sensor and advanced AF system. So you can shoot sports on Friday night, landscapes on Saturday - printed at 24" x 36" -, and portraits on Sunday. And you can do all that better than you can with any other single camera in the world.
The most direct competitor to the A99ii is the Canon 5D IV. Honestly it's really hard to see where the Canon is better. Because it's not, although the Canon is close.
What's the A99ii's weakness? That's easy also. It's in lens availability. Sony needs to step up it's game here, and also release the lens info needed to get Sigma back on board. Please!
