**Weekly X Series Photo Thread 08 Jan - 14 Jan**

Brilliant BW. Like the high key look in these.

The 14mm f2.8 is a favourite of mine for tight places, markets and general street. I generally shoot blind from the hip and I prefer my XP1 for this on a long cross body strap with the camera flat against my hip. I keep the camera back straight and steady the camera with fingers underneath and thumb on the shutter. To change aim I turn my whole body and "look around" as a press the shutter. I find this gets me pictures without the subject "posing".

Note the first picture taken with camera to my eye and the immediate pose of the subjects even though I was quick. The rest are all from the hip as described and provide what is IMO a more attractive angle than from eye height. All except first with XP1+14mm.

Double Exposure
Double Exposure

Long exposure leaning against the railings at St Pancras Station on my way home from work the other day. I took a few and this one isn't the sharpest, but I liked it best because of the stillness of the guy in the middle of the frame - sort of giving a focal point with everyone else moving around. I may go back and have another try with my Gorillapod to see if I can get the bits that are supposed to be sharp...sharp!

Great work, Vic!

So, do you set focus to infinity at whatever aperture you're using?

Thanks Ed. Don't really need inf in tight areas but with the 14mm even at f5.6 set focus to 5ft and and you're sharp from 2.5ft to 36ft. Set f8 and sharp from your toenails to inf.

Regards, Vic

Right, that makes sense. Thanks.

Do you know Harvey Stein? He is a street photog who has been using 21mm (ff) for decades. Worth a look.

Cheers.

Thanks Ed, I'll check him out.

Imaginative and it works well.

This looks great Jon. As you ay, the one guy standing still in the center really emphasises the movement around him. I must try this. I would think in B&W this might look quite HCB-like.
