Hello all!

My name is Sascha, and i'm about to buy a new camera, i just don't know wich one to pick! (D7200 VS D500)

Right now i've been using the Nikon D3300 for a year now and it's an amazing camera!
But last week i got to work with a D7200, and it was a total different feeling, after shooting some pictures and looking at them in lightroom 6 i could tell that the D7200 is a step up in IQ compared with the D3300, but then there's still the D500...

I like going to sleddog events and take pictures of the husky's out there, but i also love to wake up early and (hopefully) get a good photograph of a deer, or a nice bird, wildlife i guess ?

I currently own 2 lenses, a Nikor 70-300mm and the D3300 18mm - 50mm kit lens

What do you folks think? the D7200 and spend some money on better lenses, or a D500 and buy lenses later on ?

The biggest advantages of the D500, over the D7200, is its frame rate (10FPS to 6FPS), its buffer, and the new AF system. It also has approximately a half stop advantage. I use the D500 for sports and it works very well. But when comes to portraits, landscapes, stills, there are better cameras out there (I use a D810) to do that kind of work.

You have ask yourself, if you need the speed of the D500, and are willing to sacrifice the detail of a higher mega pixel camera such as a D7200 (which has a 24 mpixel sensor compared to the 20.9 mpixel sensor of the D500).

Hmm, i never had any speed problems with the D3300... i know both camera's are good, i think i'll go with the D7200 and spend the extra cash on a decent lens

You just imagine it's a difference between the final images from D7200 and D3300. The difference is in features, ergonomics. Maybe the D7200 had a fine tuned lens so it nails better the focus.

Well... there you have it! You've made a choice. Good for you.

I would have recommended the same thing. The d7200 is, in my opinion, Nikon's best "all-around" camera. The specs on the d500 are nice, but there's so much extra weight and expense for features most people never need. For instance, my camera (a6000) goes up to 11fps, and I turn it down to 6fps about 98% of the time. I find I get the shot I need without wasting ridiculous amounts of memory on shots I'll just be throwing out later. I think you can easily get pictures of all the things you want with the d7200, especially if you put the extra money towards new lenses.
