When I got my Sony FDR-X3000 I wanted to take advantage of my existing GoPro accessories. I looked online at some of the 1/4-20 thread (ie: standard threaded hole for tripods) to GoPro adapters and tried one of the inexpensive ones (Neewer). Quality was very poor and it didn't clamp very tightly to my GoPro mounts.

Then I found the K-Edge Go Big GoPro Universal Camera Adapter (doesn't exactly roll of the tongue). It's aluminum and was on Amazon for a very reasonable USD$11. It just arrived and I tried it on my GoPole floater handle, my GoPro 3-way extension arm, and some other 3rd party mount that features a spring clip for attaching to a backpack strap. It fits a big snuggly in all of them but tightens up very firmly. Build quality is very good. It makes the camera stick out quite a bit but it's necessary in order for it to work with a chest mount or similar type of mount.

Also, if you curl your index finger around the front of the mount as though it were a trigger, it works fairly well as a handle.

Did you purchase that when it was on sale perhaps? I just checked it out on Amazon, and right now it is selling for $24.99

When I bought it, it didn't say anything about it being on sale, although for several days prior to that, I always saw its price as around USD$25. So when the price suddenly showed up at less than half that, I ordered it right away. I was going to buy it, anyway, even at USD$25.

I put it in my list and will keep a close eye on it. Hopefully it will come down in price like it did for you.

Any suggestions for mounting the X3000 to this helmet at this location?
