I have a Fujinon 100-400 telephoto lens and a Fujinon 90mm lens. Would a 50-140mm fill any gap in shooting situations that these two lenses wouldn't cover?

An odd question. Do you have anything wider than the 90mm? Even 50mm on APS sensors is awfully narrow for most uses. If you've nothing wider than 90mm the more rational purchase is one of the 16/18 to 50/55 zooms. That gives you 50mm, 90mm and a long zoom plus the usual wider angles. The 50-140 overlaps a lot with your long zoom, is heavy and costly although it is faster.

Without knowing all your gear and all your subjects it isn't easy to go further.

Hi Andrew. Yes, I have the 18-135mm XT-1 kit lens, the 35mm prime, the 90mm and the 100-400mm. I use the telephoto only for birds and nature shots. I was wondering really if the 50-140mm would be more useful than the 90mm.

Probably not then.
