Hi friends,

at the moment i host my portfolio at dreamhost on a wordpress template i bought i while ago. While i like the design, the site loading speeds are terrible and i really dont want to spend that much time optimizing the site and fiddle around with wordpress settings.

You can check yourself: stefanrows.com

Now i wonder to change to smugmug or squarespace. Favorite at the moment being smugmug.

Anyone has experience with either of them? I want a hassle-free platform to just upload my pictures and present my professional portfolio, dont want to fiddle with settings and optimization.

I am very thankful for any suggestions :) Thank you!

I use smugmug because it is easy to get images up and out to people who want them.

I like flickr for my stream of consciousness and fun...

So many choices...

I use fotomerchant and have been very happy with them. Some great themes and, more importantly, mobile responsive. Quite easy to use too.

For general hosting/wordpress, I would recommend HostGator. But for Photograph-specific, I would recommend Smugmug. The only issue I have with Smugmug is the limited available templates to use, but other than that, setup and configuration (including uploading and sorting photos) is easy and straightforward.

We use SquareSpace at work (for non-photography stuff as my company is a manufacturer) and it's OK. More templates to choose from than Smugmug as it's [SquareSpace] is targeting a wider market, including photographers and businesses that are not related to photography. Smugmug is simple, and probably a bit cheaper, but it's designed mainly for photography so you don't have things like blogs or article/CMS support (at least, I didn't see any), so that's the biggest difference between SquareSpace and Smugmug. For photography, either one should be fine.

Zenfolio.

Thanks for the reply.

Actually smugmug has a blog function, seems to be pretty clean and nice. I like the simplicity of just using a LR Plugin to upload my work to a gallery with one click.

I just set everything up to make the switch to them and will report back of how or how not satisfied i will be :)

Didn't know Smugmug had a blog function... I don't blog, though, so I probably just never looked into. Sorry for the mis-information.

Zenfolio also has a blog function. I'm not sure how it compares to Smugmug. I started out with Smugmug a few years ago then changed to Zenfolio.
