Is exposuremanager down or out of business?

Tried last night; fail.
Tried early this morning ; fail.
Just tried ; fail.

If other then temp ideas for replacement I need to get photos up today if possible if not by tomorrow evening.

Are page has been down for 4 days. We have sent over 20 e-mails with no response. We have in the hundred thousands of photos on the site and are dead in the water as we speak because of this outage. Would be nice if they had a phone number or non robot reply e-mail.

I'm having the same problem! Had customer call yesterday who couldn't access photos, so I went to the Exposure Manger account page and it won't load. Emailed them and nothing! I have two school who I told would be up next week so they could purchase photos. I don't know what I'm going to do. If they closed they could of told us. I had an account with them for 8 years and nothing like this has ever happened. Please let me know if you hear anything from them.

I was a little surprised to see nothing on the internet about this, so glad to see this string. It was down for at least two days. Travis and Jack have always been incredibly responsive to me via email support for Exposure Manager, so I've been really surprised that I've not heard from them once in my numerous emails to Exposure Manager support asking what's going on. Is it going to happen again?

I've been with EM for about 8 years and it seems like their page had only been down once in the first 7 years, and then again about six weeks ago for one day, and now at least two days in a row. The lack of response is what really concerns me, as I wonder if they've begun selling out -- service not as good, customer service sucking. If that's the case, then I need to move on to a new online gallery company. I just can't afford to have my galleries down randomly, and with no explanation.

If anyone hears what is going on at EM, please do share.

I will hold for now. But I will keep your comments in mind, if things deteriorate . I have been with them since their early days also. The deciding factor then was Exposure Manager did not attempt to steal your customers as the only other "total solution" company did at the time.

Hi Ron,

I've been with ExposureManager for 10+ years and was similarly concerned/puzzled/frustrated by their temporary disappearance in October 2016. The story I was given upon their reappearance is this:

1. Donovan founded the company to help his wife with her photography business; that they could also scale the thing to serve other photographers was just icing on the cake.

2. As her business has changed, he created another company (17 Hats?) to help in new areas.

3. 17 Hats subsequently attracted a substantial amount of VC investment.

4. Virtually all EM resources were pulled away to work on 17 Hats, leaving just a skeleton crew to oversee EM.

5. I was advised that there's no particular hurry, but I should keep an eye out for an alternative fulfillment company.

I've done more than that — I've actively looked for a replacement — but haven't found anything that gives me some of the critical features of EM. I even went so far (a year ago) as to set up a SmugMug Pro account and start the transition. Over the course of two weeks, literally every time I asked SM how to implement a feature I used every week with EM, the answer was, "We don't offer anything like that." So I left, and stuck with EM.

Now, today, I just received an email from another EM customer asking if I was aware they were shutting down on March 1, and what I planned to do about it. I have no idea. I can't even determine yet what the source of that news might have been. I just know that I'm back to being frustrated.

INTERESTING!!!! I was just on site. no indications of a shutdown. However, there was little new info.

Its official - they are closing. Although you can still go to the home page and actually sign up for an account, once you log in, here's the news:

"On March 1, 2018, we will be shutting down ExposureManager after 13 years of service. We thank you for being an ExposureManager customer and wish your business the best of luck in the future. We recommend Shoot proof and Zenfolio as alternatives. All final payments will be processed through Dwolla on the normal schedule. You will have access to your account for uploading and any cleanup you’d like to do through March 15, 2018."

Really? Thanks for the timely notice! They've been a hot mess since starting 17Hats, which ironically is software to keep you organized. Maybe if they'd tried it for Exposure Manager.....

I've tried Zenfolio before and they can't take payments, which doesn't work for me when we're processing a lot of orders. What should I do there? Have people call me with payment? Not gonna work.

Has anyone used Shoot proof? Do you know if they keep the file structure of the uploads?

I had to log in to see that info? What a **** move on their part!

Doesn't take much to send out a mass email... months ago.

I already started looking for a replacement but there any I can find that organize the same way. I sell nature photos, not event photos. I don't set things up by 1-gallery-per client! Most sites are only set up that way. Shootproof is great but each gallery is it's own shopping cart and you can't browse between galleries. Smugmug is a nightmare of usability. I can't seem to find any places that allow me to set up and sell between galleries.

I've got a ShootProof account... I like it overall, but it's clearly "different."

And trying to transition more than a decades worth of sport images is simply not gonna happen.

I've only used ShootProof a couple times...twice for weddings & once for portraits. (Normally I would do those in person...but for various reasons I needed an online gallery.) Looks like I need to explore them a bit more and get good at their gallery hierarchy. Ugh LOL

On the plus side, SP offers several labs to choose from AND has a cool little app that one can send out at no extra cost. All without commissions. So far I'm pleased... That said, I'm not sure how my sport biz will fit in...and like I said, I'm not looking forward to moving a decades worth of images. (Yeah, yeah, too many photos...but after almost every event I get someone purchasing an images from x years ago...and since it costs me nothing for the space...they stay.)

Time will tell... I've been shooting less sport every year...so perhaps that's a sign. ;-)

You can edit/add to a gallery though... Perhaps just create a couple based on subjects/places/seasons..? Not sure, because I've not tried to use it that way.

They DO have excellent customer service though. I called a couple times and was able to speak with an actual human and not a self help button mashing runaround.

And I agree...TERRIBLE way to treat people! Some of whom have been around since day one. It's not as if they don't have my email address!

If not for this thread, I would have only found out when links on organizers pages started breaking or when people couldn't order a print. Not good. Makes it clear that I will NEVER support anything else Donovan & Co have their hands in.

And to be sure, they've not updated anything for quite some time...but that's not the point. For the events I needed it for, it worked. And to simply leave everyone hanging is irritating to say the least.

Not sure what you mean by "they can't take payments" ... ? After building a list of some key features I need to retain, Zenfolio met more requirements than anyone else. I've been with them since March and they accept and process payments just fine.

There are other headaches — notably, no FTP uploading — but overall I'm relatively happy.

If you haven't already found a replacement you are happy with, you may want to try Fine Art America.

They allow you to set up a web site of just your images (mine's at http://michael-fryd.pixels.com), they also allow will sell your images through their main web site (www.FineArtAmerica.com)

You upload the images, and they handle fulfillment, customer service, collections, etc.

They offer large prints on paper, metal, plexi, shower curtains, smartphone cases, etc. You can choose which products you want to offer, and how much over cost to markup the price.

They do good work.
