I've been shooting pixelshift macros non-stop since May, but yesterday I finally got out of the house to do some long exposure work. This is a 7 minute exposure with my new 28-105mm and Formatt-Hitech filter kit.

Every day my Pentax K-1 amazes me. As many times as Pentax p*sses me off with their lens lineup, I'm reminded how much I love my K-1, and I can be patient and wait for lenses. :D

Nice, straight horizon.. moody sky.. it's pretty.

But did you adjust for Chromatic Aberration? I see a lot of magenta on all of the rocks. That or there is purple cast from the NDF. Or both.

...amazing, must have been a spiritual experience!? - certainly for the K-1

+ though maybe reduce the sharpening.

How are you finding the 28-105?

thanks for the comments... yeah, I over-sharpened... I'm bad with doing a default RAW sharpening, then doing another round. It didn't need it.

Purple cast -- yeah, probably the filter. I did a quick edit then 'shelved' it for today to step away and get fresh eyes. When I go back and do a 'real' edit, I will mind my sharpening and look into the CA and/or filter cast.

re: 28-105mm -- it's a really great lens! I wish it was a little faster, and while it's not eye bleedingly sharp, it's more than sharp enough. The thing I'm really starting to like about it though is that ineffable "rendering"... I can't explain it, but in a lot of shots I've taken there's a certain something that's very pleasant. It's a great all-rounder lens.

Very nice shot! Would like to see more of your pictures taken with 28-105 and your overall comment about it.

thanks for sharing.

I bought the lens in anticipation of my upcoming trip to the southwest US... I love the Sigma Art 35, but I don't think I'm technically or creatively up to the task of using only 35mm. So the 28-105 will definitely get used in two weeks!

Truly amazing!!! Thanks for sharing. That photo is art. Cheers :)
You're very kind Kriztian, thanks for the encouragement. I'm definitely going back and make more careful (and less) edits on my final edit for print.

Beautiful - I like it very much.

Kind regards,

Brett

Very enjoyably smooth! I like the colours and composition.

The only criticism I can think of is: There's maybe no point of focus or path for the eye to follow.

I agree... it's a indistinct, lacks direction, etc. In defense of it I guess... it was hurried in the sense that I was there to get a feel for new filters and their use, a location 200 miles from home, shooting with other beachgoers on shore, etc. I wasn't primarily focused on the composition, which is a shame actually, considering the time/gas I spent getting there, and the $15 in tolls.

In a post-mortem sense, definitely, I have a sense of how I could better frame it to lead the viewer through the frame. Thanks for your kind feedback Chris, it's appreciated! :)
