It is best to sell it yourself (ebay, kijiji, etc.) A camera store will look online at the lowest going price of that camera and only give you a fraction of that.

Unless you have a classic body (i.e. D700) you're going to get very little money for it. I gave or sold (for very cheap) my old Nikons to young people who were wanting to get into photography and could not afford a nice camera.

I sell old cameras and lenses to KEH ... you'll find them online ... and get a very fair price. Though as others said, cameras depreciate quickly... lenses not as fast.

KEH also has buyers who travel around the US, stopping at local photo stores. If you sell your old gear to KEH at a photo store, you have a choice of a KEH check... or a store credit for more than the check value. This is a good deal if you are shopping for a new camera.
