What do you mean by "local" Oly service center? The only ones I know about in the USA are the two national ones, one in CT and one in NJ.Same thing happened to me, I called my local Olympus service centre. I was polite and they were really good about it. A few days later, a brand new one showed up on my front door. Maybe I got lucky, but perhaps you could give that a try?

12-40 front cap also look premium is very cheap and not good quality. i bought a new 12-40 lens and without drop anywhere the springs and the parts and the round ring came out. i notice that the glue was placed for sticking the round ring with the main body of the the cup was not much. so when the glue go away the ring that holding the main part came off and the springs and other parts fell off. then i put more glue around the ring .. i stick it to the main cap body and all working perfect now. but for sure cheaply madeRecently bounced my oly 12-40 lens cap off a bunch of rocks while climbing and it exploded. Found all the parts except one of the springs which hold the thumb releases pushed out. I've looked all over and can't find a replacement. Found something that barely works but is not really stiff enough. Anybody know where to get them?
Well, in Sydney, there's Olympus' service centre, which is not far from my house. Hence local, but unfortunately, for others it might be further away haha! What do you mean by "local" Oly service center?
