D760 wishlist

Even if they put the same senor in a D500 body, I would be satisfied.

Better use of wifi for control / tethering. Remote live view bulb mode like olympus would be nice for example or being able to set focus point and control CLS / remote speedlights like being on the main menu.

I'd buy one today with these features (i n the order they occurred to me):

1. Quieter shutter

2. Mirrorless-like features on a flippy touch screen:

-- touch to focus, slide for exposure comp, etc

-- zebra striping for focus

3. Lighted dials / lens alignment dot

4. Ability to customize scene modes (i.e. ability to see camera settings for "portrait" or "pets" and make adjustments).

5. Forget GPS in camera, but how about really good integration with the phones we all carry:

-- use phone's GPS

-- good (great!) tethering apps with complete menu/settings control, fancy remote trigger features

-- ability to tag photos and give names, notes, with phone

-- EXIF viewing with phone

-- shutter count

-- encourage developers to make apps, camera control hacks, and allow users to share camera settings (like modules to add that could change the functionality of the camera)

-- stolen camera recovery / locking

6. Auto focus fine tune

7. Full frame coverage of focus points (this was the only significant disappointment I had with the D750).

8. Focus bracketing! (Why doesn't this exist?)

9. Get rid of the stupid focus point lock ring (which I slide by accident and then miss shots or think that my camera "crashed").

10. Better eyepiece (it's okay, but not great)

11. 1/8000

12. Same price

Get to work, Nikon!

What would you like to see in the next incarnation...
36 or 42 mp

8 fps

1/8000 sec

30 mp BSI sensor

D5 AF module

8 fps

Auto AF fine tune

Raw histogram, now that is an interesting thought. A neutral camera mode setting might give about the same result which I use.

I would also like to see the Blending Mode options that the D500 has for multiple exposures. (Lighten, Darken, and Normal I think)

I looovve the D750 even though I don't actually have one, I always wanted one though. I saved 2 of my friends from making a huge mistake when they were looking at the 6D.

Imaging sensor: 36MP with some kind of on sensor phase detect autofocus points, for better live view and video autofocus.

ISO range: 100-25600 native

Shutter speed: 1/8000th

AF system: I think the D750 would be sufficient, but would be better with a new one

Memory card(s): SD UHS-II x2

Video recording resolution: 4k 30fps (no or small crop), 1080 120fps

Size/Weight: smaller and lighter

LCD Size/type: 3" touchscreen. Minimum tilt, want fully articulated

GPS + Snapbridge. Just improve on the software

Weather sealing: Yes

Other: USB3, headphone and mic jack, USB charging, 3 control dials, top LCD plate that doesn't look like a calculator, redesigned grip that is super comfortable in the hand (see Pentax K1).

This sounds like a lot, but this is a wishlist, right?

What we'll probably get: D750 with a 36mp sensor and 1 more fps. I expect the D820 to have more mp to combat the 5DSR, so there's room for the D760 to use the 36mp sensor.

The above list plus:

- Focus peaking at least for video

- Maybe on sensor pdaf for faster live view AF

- Maybe electronic front curtain shutter advanced / custom setting

...and it would take something huge to make me want to upgrade.

Nice camera as the D750 is, it's partly a result of Nikon deliberately and obviously holding back certain features on it to push us on to the D8xx line. Clever strategy no doubt, but it doesn't really work with me and I don't like having to look at a more expensive D8xx when what I want could easily be made by Nikon in a D7xx body. Consequently, I have the lenses ready to go but no body, just waiting for Nikon to sort it out. Same sensor in the D500 is the dream (not bothered about more megapickles), but in the absence of that:

- No bigger than its current size.

- No AA filter.

- 1/8000.

- Proper focus peaking.

- Quieter shutter.

- A properly tested machine, negating recalls.

Now an updated D750 like that would be what I call an investment no matter what the initial cost - years and years of pleasure without any need to get a bigger D8xx or buy any other camera at all.

Improved buffer

More FPS - 7.5 or 8

More U1/U2 banks

D5 AF

Pretty happy with current sensor/megapixel count

Joystick for AF point selection

Backlit buttons

Basically improvements that make it work better as a wildlife/action camera, I'm happy with it for landscape/astro.

Uhh... why would you want / suggest an apsc sensor in a FF body? Also megapickles are probably best left on sandwiches ;-)

D750 sensor in D500 body. I like megapickles.

4k video
1/8000 shutter
touch-to-focus on LCD while using the viewfinder.
WiFi & GPS

All stuff you can get with other brands already by the way. "Nice to have" would be 36mp. I've come to really like WiFi on my Sony RX10. I can have a picture off the camera and on my phone in under a minute, although it's still a bit fiddly.

Pentax-level weather sealing

4K 30FPS video

Touchscreen focusing for photos and video

D5 autofocus accuracy
