Much as I loved my Nikon D700 it was getting too heavy to lug everywhere, so I bought a little Fuji X1-T.

The lens that was generally on the Nikon was the AF-S NIKKOR 24-120mm f/4G ED VR Lens, and I'd love to be able to use it on the Fuji. I've never played with adapters before but can't find a lens that gives me what the 24-120 does.

I've seen a few adapters, at varying prices with varying claims about what they will do.

I'd really appreciate some advice about what adapter will give me the maximum quality and functions, and what will I loose if I go down this route?

Thanks

Good answer from AndyMcD - the first thing I would add is that there is an even cheaper Speed Booster available (about half the price of the Zhongyi Speed Boster II) but it is limited in that it's maximum focusing distance is quoted as between 2 and 5 metres. Probably best avoded.

The next advice, and a step I think you should take before buying even a cheap straight-through adapter, is to put your 24-120 into manual focus mode and see how you get on focusing it on your D700. Manual Focus on a modern AFS lens is very different thing from the old silky smooth MF lenses.

Lastly, how wedded are you to the 24-120 zoom range, especially at the wide end? I ask because I have two mid-range zooms for my Nikon APS-C cameras - the oldish 16-85, and the 18-140. I'm more interested in having the 24mm FF equivalent of the 16-85 than the extra length of the 18-140, and the 16-85 is my go-to when I'm not using prmes.

I ask because Fuji do a sort of 'budget' 16-50 (24-75mm FF) and an 18-135 (27-210mm FF). The latter is relatively expensive, but I doubt you'd be horribly out of pocket if you sold your 24-120 to help offset the cost. Both would give you AF and all sorts of other controls you won't get with your 24-120.

(To round this off, for most of the half dozen years my D700 was the only camera I used, an AF Nikkor 28-200mm 3.5-5.6 was my walkaround lens. Latterly, I switched to the 24-85mm, just for the extra width.)
