i decide to move from sony a5100 to m43 world

but after i read a lot , i am confused , cannot decide

what i like from em10 mark ii is : nice alloy body so sexy , punchy color out of the box jpeg , 5 axis ibis which i think maybe better than panasonic ? because panasonic is new in this field ? cmiiw

what i like from gx85 : 4k video ( dunno if i ever use it ) , dual is ( are there any future for this ? as far as i see only a few zoom lens support it , not prime ) , newer sensor ?

GX85 with kit lens cost usd 880

EM10 mark II with kit lens cost usd 915

EM10 mark II with kit lens , and 45mm f1.8 zuiko cost usd 1106

EM10 with kit lens and 45mm f1.8 cost usd880

and , GX8 with either 25mm lens or 45-150 lens and extra battery cost usd 1100 ( my last option , i do not like the body size )

which one should i buy ?

for GX85 i am afraid for plastic body build and evf quality , dual is ibis ( which is new for panasonic ) , and not much people use it here

for em10 mark ii , it's lack for 4K for movie , and dual is from gx85 which make me think which one is better

For GX85 , it's body size , and only 4 axis ibis

any suggestion ?

Hmm, are you in he US or are you converting your local currency to USD? Reason I asked is in the US, GX85+12-32 is at USD797 at most (online) stores.
EM10 mark II with kit lens cost usd 915
In the US, this can be had at USD599.

OK, looks like you're outside the US based on the above two prices.

I have a EM10 i and I plan to get a GX85 by the end of this year for its 4k - I'm not into video but am interested in the stills grab from 4k video. The EM10 is a great camera and so is the mark II but GX85 has some additional features(DFD, post focus, 4k) I find interesting.

I've held both EM10 mark II and GX85 in a store and I like the EM10 mark II build better. But the GX85 is also well-built and I didn't find its EVF any worse than my EM10's.

Recommend: GX85

yes , em10 mark ii build is nicer , but gx85 with brown color is nice too ,

how about the handling ? Is it nice to use gx85 ? Does it feel cheap or not ?

Sure that feature is interesting too

and about olympus lens and panasonic lens , which one is perform better ?

Thanks

Why? You are moving from an APSC sensor to the m4/3 sensor ... You could buy a A6100 or build up your lens collection, which will help you taking better pictures.
what i like from em10 mark ii is : nice alloy body so sexy ,
The body "looks" like the old metal body of SLRs but it is mostly made of plastic. Mirror-less cameras at this price range are all of similar built to be competitive in price.
The GX85 has 4k but EM10-2 does not, but in terms of 1080p video, they are, surprisingly comparable (read GX85's review at dpreview). If traveling light is what you want, Panasonic f2.8 zooms are substantially smaller and lighter and are still of excellent quality. Better match the lenses with the camera? But then I have an EM10-2 and my most-used lenses are from Panasonic (20/1.7 and 12-35/2.8). One thing that Panasonic took away from GX85 is the direct AF/MF control on the camera body, which I found useful for shooting video using a lens without the AF/MF switch (e.g., 20/1.7) as this allows me to more readily stop the AF from hunting.

So, just use the focus lock button (set to hold). No hunting. Press, focus locks. Press again, back to AF.

I've had plenty of plastic body cameras as well as metal body cameras. I would not be worried about a plastic body camera at all. I'd be much more concerned about reliability, ergonomics, image quality, and whether it has the features or not. Just because it's plastic doesn't mean it's not going to be durable or reliable.

You mean the AF/AE lock button? This will work if it is not set to other functions. I often like to set it to AF-On. I guess different cameras require a re-think in terms of how to set it up properly.

I was in exactly the same dillema,i went with the panasonic.

After searching for a month from reviews i found those extras over the olympus that will are more appealing for what i need.

-smaller body

-dual is technology that works also on video(if you use the ois lens)and

5axis (not so good as the olympus )but still good

-much better autofocus on videos

-less noise on higher iso

-4k video and photos,i do extreme sports and i need this sometimes as i can take the best moment

-newer camera comparable or even better than the more expensive olympus bodies in same areas

-better focus in low light

I think thats the reasons,i too like the om-d e-m10 ii better but the video was one of the mail reasons that i went with panasonic.

No aa filter so a bit sharper pictures, not sure of olympus has or hasnt got one.

Good luck

What a coincidence! I plan to get a brown one too (from HongKong via ebay). I've a orange GM1.
how about the handling ? Is it nice to use gx85 ? Does it feel cheap or not ?
I've only handled the GX85 in a store. However, I've a GM1 that I have been using for more than a year. The GX85 is of course heavier and bigger than a GM1 plus it has a EVF which the GM1 doesn't. I'd handle the GX85 as I'd my GM1. The GX85 material and dials do not feel as solid as the EM10 ii. But it's not bad either. The fact that I'm planning to buy one soon says a lot too.

Yes.
and about olympus lens and panasonic lens , which one is perform better ?
I've two Panasonic primes - 14/2.5 and 15/1.7 and I couldn't notice any difference in performance. Same goes for my two Olympus - 25/1.8 and 45/1.8 - no noticeable difference. In other words, I don't worry about using any m43 lenses on either body.

Yes, the AF/AE lock button. I use it all the time in the way I described for video. AF gets me the focus I want and then I lock it by pressing AF/AE. I think you can assign another button to do this, or AF on.

How important is video to you?

E-M10 II does good video, just not up to broadcast quality like Panasonic. And it's 1080p.

If you need 4K you need the panasonic.

In my opinion, panasonic has a better software interface, but Olympus has better hardware ergonomics. The rear wheel on the GX85 is fiddly and annoying, but the control wheels on the Olympus are brilliant. Olympus has a confusing UI that takes some getting used to, but the Super Control Panel is nice.

Olympus in-body stabilization is a bit better than Panasonic's IBIS. But Panasonic's dual stabilization will be better if you have Panasonic stabilized lenses.

I think the Olympus looks a lot better. But the flip side of that is that the GX85 looks more discrete.

GX85, it's a more complete hybrid camera. The video it produces is superb! The IS is amazing and it's tiny and quiet. Great little camera!! For me it won hands down.

Simple - the camera with the mostest made by Whatsitsname versus the camera from good old Olympus, the maker of cameras from the time of dreams ....

The EM-10II is no doubt another capable dream camera but scaled back to make sure that it is not quite as good as an E-M1, E-M5II or a Pen-F. On the other hand the GX85 is the very best that Panasonic can put into a camera body at a very reasonable price - unless the evf makes one throw up ... :)

When Pany and Oly doesn't classify themself by OIS and IBIS, the difference is getting smaller. Before EM1-II is rumored to have 4K, Pany is still doing better in this sector. If not shooting video often, nor have interest in the fun that 4K-Photo offers, just a matter of brand name only. It is very personal.

It is already heavier than the metal GX7. A good way to keep its weight light because of the 4K heat issue. As quoted some other members' opinion, don't be trick by the thin metal skin...

?

Except for the 3 1st generation consumer zooms (14-45, 45-200 and 100-300), every OIS lenses, zoom or Prime. of Pany supports Dual IS. We enjoy Dual IS on GX8 and GX85 for >1yr (except 3 older lenses: 14-42 I, 14-42PZ and 45-175PZ are still waiting fw update which unfortunately over due until now...). On my home testing likely there would be +/-1 stop of so benefit on Dual IS vs OIS.

An intuitive menu system, fast spot on AF (EM5/10 never satisfy me, not sure their M2's improvement), body form (you are about dslr-like and range finder style, very different in design), implementation of touch screen etc would also determine would a camera be right for me. I would also consider would an external hand grip be needed? If so, the original body shape, weight and size would no longer be the same... Don't over look it.

Either EM10 II or GX85 won't go wrong.

I don't really care about video so take it as you will, I went with Oly because of the superb customization abilities. I cannot use a camera with less than two stand alone control dials. Well, I can but I highly dislike to. I also think Oly B/W JPEGS are fantastic. There are one or two other things but those dials are essential when I want to control settings without taking the camera from my eye. Oh, yeah the OVF is nice too.

GX85 without a doubt. It's smaller, more discreet, no annoying hump EVF in the middle. Nice and simple and modern and feels nice in the hand. It comes with a better kit lens (12-32) too. 4K video (and 4K photo mode) may come in useful at some point.

have you used them? I had a similar problem. I used each camera for a day. I forgot about all the reviews, specs etc. The choice was easy.

According to DPReview Olympus OM-D E-M10 II has better low light / high ISO performance than Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX80/85.

sakisflat,

Nice summary. I'm interested in the gx85 but concerned about the evf. I've read neutral to bad things about it in several reviews. I've had a em5 which i broke and an em10 which i sold. Their evfs were functional but limited. (the attachable vf-4 on my ep5 is much better). What is your opinion on the gx85's evf?

thanks
