Been trying to write a review of this camera for 6 months. Of course in that time the A6300 has come out, but the A6000 is still relevant so here goes.

More detailed thoughts here

Pros

For the price still about the best interchangeable mirrorless camera you can buy

Light and easy to carry around. The kit lens makes it a small very portable system, which will make you want to leave your SLR behind

With a fast lens the sensor will give you great performance with noise only becoming apparent @ 400 and usable beyond this.

Minuses

A UI designed in the dark ages, with to few manual controls and no touch screen. The lack of a dedicated manual focus button and a 2nd top dial are particularly painful.

Lack of lens choice limits your expansion routes unless you want to spend as much money again on lenses.

Sony app system tells you all you need to know about Sony as a camera company. A good idea, poorly implemented and used by Sony to fleece loyal customers by providing functions easily provided by a software upgrade

Just reprogram one of the buttons to switch to manual focus. There are several ways to do is.

Don't agree on much of this - except the lack of touch screen and strange UI.

I held off buying the 6000, hoping that the "next one" would have a touch screen, but along comes the 6300 with a somewhat improved UI but NO touch screen.

Panasonic and Olympus make good use of their touch screens, giving some real advantages in use : come on Sony! - should be leading the way, not lagging! Even super-conservative Nikon are starting to introduce touch screens on their DSLRs.

On the UI -

Extra button presses for flexible spot (fixed on the 6300).

Why an extra button press to get eye-focus? Surely if face detection is enabled, then automatically selecting an eye would be sensible.

This isn't just the A6000. I had read raves about using the eye focus feature - how great it is - then tried it. It's AWFUL because it requires a very awkward 2 button press (that can cause camera movement) - with each individual click.

What can't I just switch it ON? Chances are really good when you're shooting for this type of image - you're going to do more than just one.

It really is TERRIBLE that Sony A6000 has that Eye-AF. It would be so much BETTER if it just didn't EXIST, the you wouldn't be FORCED to use it and SHAKE the camera while you FUMBLE along, taking those HORRIBLE pictures.

THANKS SO MUCH, for pointing out this giant TERRIBLE FLAW.
