So my camera has always been fine until I turned it on just a week ago. I turn the wheel to change from P to M and then for some reason, even though it is supposed to be on M, it is still stuck on S. My auto flash doesn't work either. Basically, the only modes I can shoot with now are P, S, auto(no flash). My M, A, and auto(flash) doesn't work at all. Does anyone know why or how this happened? I didn't change anything in the settings and didn't drop the camera. I've owned this camera for 2 years and it has never done this. The last time I used manual was just 11 days ago so I know it works. Here's a video of it happening

I've tried a firmware upgrade and that doesn't work either. Anyone have any tips on how to fix it?

Most of the Nikons have a reset, if you push both green buttons at the same time. I am not familiar with your camera but does it have two green buttons?

Recharge the battery, just for a hoot...I have had strange low power gremlins before. Other than that I am flummoxed and think you should send it in.

I'm very puzzled too. I have 2 spare batteries and I have tried switching them to no avail. Sadly, my camera is out of warranty so I don't think sending it in would be cost efficient.

Hi,

Upgrade to D5300 or D5500 or better and make a jump forward in IQ and functionality ?

Greetings,
Marc

Sorry to read your tale of woe. The camera sounds rather dead to me. Time perhaps to upgrade to a nice new D7200, or perhaps a lightly used secondhand one - that's what I would do.

If you want to stick with the same camera or the D5300 there are great deals out there - especially on the D5200 though - renewed, refurbed or slightly used.

These prices for the D5200 are so good I would actually buy one rather than a new D5300 if my D5300 died - as my primary street photography / light / travel camera. I don't use GPS or WIFI, so the picture quality should be essentially the same (D5300 has no LPF but you'd probably be hard pressed to notice the difference this makes.)

Hi, I understand you posted this yonks ago, however I’m currently experiencing the same issue and wondered if you’d found a solution?
