I love Zeiss lenses on my Sony gear. Love the manual focus, built quality, rendering and micro contrast...

How does the Zeiss Touit 32mm f/1.8 Lens (Now on sale for 499 at B&H) compare to the Fuji lens? How is AF performance? Is it a true manual focus or focus by wire?

Thanks

Between the Touit 12mm and the Fuji 14mm, which one was the clear winner? Why?

Tricky question since 12mm is noticably wider than 14mm - 2/14 or 1/7 wider FOV. So it depends on what's your favor?

Fuji lens has essentially no barrel distortion so no need for lens profiles for software correction. Barrel distortion should never be confused with perspective distortion. fuji is smaller, sharper in the corners, and shares the same filter and hood as the fuji 18-55 so i only carry one hood with me.

another choice if you want to save money is the Samyang/Rokinon 12mm f/2 for fuji mount. It is a manual lens but that is rarely a handicap with wide angle lenses.

There's no shortage of reviews out re the 12 and 14. There's a ton out on the 32 versus the 35/1.4 and the 1.4 versus the 2.0. Easy to extrapolate.

A few things to keep in mind:

1), for whatever reason the 2 lenses never sold all that well. It's not price as Zeiss has bundled them with major discounts at times. Probably a reason for this.

2), you don't mention what body you're going with. Zeiss dragged their feet before providing the firmware required to interface with something as important as PDAF (both Sony and Fuji). Like over a year after Fuji introduced the xe2. Fuji's been updating lens firmware on a fairly regular basis to keep up with enhancements in the new bodies. Has Zeiss?

I had the Fuji 35mm f1.4 and Zeiss 32mm f1.8 and compared the two. I don't own the new f2 lens but reviews suggest my preference would still be the Zeiss.

Basically the Ziess is sharper into the corners at wider apertures and that is my priority for this lens. The Fujis get better stopped down. Other considerations for me were the reversible hood on the Zeiss and the fact that it is just a tad wider. The 52mm filter thread is also very much a standard size and matches some of my other gear.

The only reason I ever read was price. Aside from that there were differences depending on personal preference but the lenses were pretty much on a par - all being excellent.

This is consistent with everything I have read over the years. I would also add that i believe the Zeiss 12mm also makes better sunstars than the fuji 14.

Sorry. I do have the X-Pro 2 and may add the XT2 as well once it is available.

That link is my point. It was over a year after the XE2 with PDAF was introduced. Nothing since.

There's no question Zeiss makes excellent lenses. However, today's lenses are software dependent. Fuji had firmware to support PDAF, the XE2, prior to its intro. Since then it's released 4 additional updates as camera firmware/AF algorithms have changed.

Whether we like it or not, support is now a criteria that needs to be considered in lens purchase decisions. Nothing says we can't choose to ignore it. But I felt the OP needed to know this up front.
